About this listen

The ships came at dawn. Dean’s wife is dead. Her last words: When the ships come...wear the necklace. Then the ships arrived.

Cities all around the world reported strange alien vessels descending. Some saw them as the heralds of a new age; others fired everything they had at them. All were taken as the beams lashed down and drew them into the sky.

Dean was left behind, seemingly the last man on Earth. A trail of clues left by his dead wife guides Dean on a perilous journey across America and beyond to learn the truth behind the mysterious ships and save humanity from its doom.

But not everything is as it seems.

The Event is the epic first novel by Nathan Hystad, creator of the best-selling Explorations anthology series.

Worth the purchase

Listened to the first three books and will be grabbing the 4th & 5th as they become available on Audible. Save humanity, save earth, menacing aliens, secrets hidden in antiquity. What will you do? No pressure aye. :)
I found it a fun listen & Luke Daniels is always a good choice for narrator. It looks like this author's 1st series on Audible. I'll be looking for more in the future.

Great story

I was not expecting to enjoy the storyline so much. I really like the narrator, Luke has the ability to make us believe that there are more people narrating due to his voice changing skill. And the storyline was almost like the author really lived the situation. He was excellent with details. It is a modern story of alien invasion but seeing by an earthling perspective. I really enjoyed

Good main character for a familiar story

First contact. Abduction of the entire human race by the aliens. A handful of humans are chosen to save humanity. - Yep, that's my kind of story.

This is a quick book which was enjoyable. Many times, authors of these types of books tend to go over the same emotions of loss and isolation and they tend to droll on and on. What leads against that type of storytelling comes from the main character who's a chosen one but he wasn't suppose to be. He's not Joe Rambo but Accountant Steve. He's a normal good guy who has a sense of humor and is smart in his own right. It's a nice change of pace from a story line I've read and enjoyed before. Other characters along the way are good and interesting. The unfolding plot is well done too. However, there are a couple of flashback scenes that seem a little too easy to give the main character the idea of what's going on. However, with only four people left on Earth it'd be harder to have an exposition dump.

Overall a fun, quick read about aliens and humanities last hope. The ending is well done and I'm going to pick up the next book in the series soon. Final Grade - B+

You Gotta Kiss a Lot of Frogs

I listen to (or at least start) a lot of books looking for a good series. This book did NOT disappoint. I loved everything about it - the premise, the fact that there's not a lot of profanity, the upbeat ending. Nowadays, it seems like everyone wants "dark" books, evil aliens killing everyone, etc. If I want "dark" I'll watch the news! I love the fact that this series shows "people" of different backgrounds can work together for a peaceful universe. I had to get the entire series and am currently listening to book 12, hoping for more to come. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Hard to Suspend Belief

Started out okay but just too many logical and factual inconsistencies to allow me to enjoy the story. Hated the ending. Not going to continue the series
