About this listen

The last living astronaut to walk on the Moon has been murdered…

Silas visits his estranged grandfather's lakehouse in the aftermath of the deadly home invasion. What he discovers hidden below the floorboards triggers a mystery buried since the final trip to the Moon over fifty years earlier.

Rory returns to her family home in Vermont to write her second novel, but fate has a different story in mind. Her reunion is shattered when she's thrust into danger revolving around the same tokens.

Special Agent Waylen Brooks exposes a covert operation linked to the death of a retired astronaut. He soon finds out he's not the only one searching for answers and willing to kill for the truth.

The unlikely trio find themselves defying the odds, with no one to trust but each other.

Can they find the tokens before someone else does?

Where do these artifacts lead?

And what secrets should remain hidden?

Echoes From the Moon is a tale of lineage and secrets by Nathan Hystad, the best-selling author of The Other Place, Below Us, and Lost Contact.

Narrator great, story dull.

I enjoy this narrator in everything I’ve heard from him. I was into the story for the first half, but then it just became a dull series of predictable events. It’s like people only know how to write one story nowadays… one person (or a few people) being betrayed and having to fight against the “man” for good! I couldn’t get through the book, so take that into account when reading this as maybe it would surprise me. But I doubt it.

Really fun!

What a cool telling of a fun, creative story. Kept my interest all the way through. I’m sure some would label it predictable or simplistic, but it was perfect, but I wouldn’t want to listen to anything they’d want to listen to. Echos of the moon was awesome, and I bet you’ll enjoy it like I did.

Great narrator

Jay Snyder is great as always. Listened to him from other books. The reason why I got this book.

One dimensional story, great narration

Spoilers Ahead!

This book started out okay; it had a good premise and a mystery that made me want to keep listening....then it quickly descended into some really weird writing styles and trivial details used as filler.

Hystad's writing became very “clipped” about a quarter of the way through - think bullet points (instead of writing in descriptive terms where you could actually “see” the story in your imagination).

There was an overarching mystery (what the tokens were all about), but this quickly became more and more boring as I began to see exactly what they were - what the title of the book says - echoes....I was waiting for the big reveal, but (so far) it has not come.

I've listened to everything but the last 1.5 hrs, and the “ending” is a real letdown for me. Spoilers ahead....

One of the characters I really liked was killed off near the beginning of the story, and her death added basically nothing to the story, and in my opinion actually detracted from it, as there was some good character development between her and Silas....so this was a real letdown for me.

Guys who were trying to kill everyone in the beginning of the book, now all just decide that it's in everyone's best interest to all work together and work for the good of everyone involved....seemed very hasty in the “ending” part (like I said, I've not gotten to the actual ending).

On a positive note, Jay Snyder, as usual, did a phenomenal job; he nails most of the narration in this book - even those characters that seem to add nothing to the story and are difficult to imagine what they'd be like because the character development is so lacking.

So, in summary, it's an okay story, but nothing spectacular. In my opinion, you could use your credit on something a lot better.

His characters were really well done.

His novel moved right along. There was never a slow part. I really was impressed.

It Could Be Real

Loved the narrator. I think I will listen to book 2 but not certain. Like the characters.

Reads like a YA novel.

This novel really sounds like a YA novel. That's not a compliment. The author also doesn't understand how the FBI works. Some real inaccuracies that take you out of the story a bit. Additionally, some of the characters' actions aren't believable. Like the bad guy willing to wait days to receive the Delta. Or, after they get the parts of the puzzle in one location, they just wait for a third of the novel before doing anything. So, the pacing isn't ideal.

However, there are good aspects as well. I do like most of the characters and they are well realized. The mystery is interesting and there are some decent action sequences. None of it is extraordinary but still diverting. I will probably check out the second book in the series.

I thought the narrator did a fine job and definitely added to the story.

The story backstory is BOOM

With 305 space fictions behind me, thing is one the grab you pull in to embrace the characters the backstory, and hints of what is next. Thank you Nathan for another story with 9 inings .

More adventure-thriller than SiFi

I enjoyed the book overall and would recommend, but if you wanted a hard science fiction story, look elsewhere. If you like people being chased along with some gunplay, you'll enjoy.
