About this listen

From the real-life Meredith Grey, comes an inspiring collection of essays based on Dr. Erin Nance’s popular TikTok account @littlemissdiagnosed, detailing Dr. Nance’s journey as a young female orthopedic surgeon navigating challenging cases and ethical dilemmas in the high-stakes, cutthroat world of medicine.

In her debut essay collection, renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Erin Nance offers a raw, unfiltered look into the exhilarating yet complicated world of healthcare. Compassionate, honest, and most of all, transformative, Little Miss Diagnosed tells the story of how a modern female surgeon survived family tragedy, systemic sexism, and everything New York City had to throw at her, to become the most trusted doctor on the internet. Through her popular social media presence, she has become a trusted figure for shedding light on these issues, making her insights and advice invaluable. Little Miss Diagnosed offers even more of that unique and unfiltered perspective on the healthcare system, providing listeners with a deeper understanding of its inner workings and how to navigate it effectively.

As thought-provoking as it is revealing, what started as an honest attempt at sharing stories to humanize medicine became a catalyst for @littlemissdiagnosed, Nance’s viral TikTok account that has grown to inspire thousands daily. With gripping accounts of true cases, Little Miss Diagnosed serves as a powerful testament to the resilience and care often thought missing in the medical world. The essay collection expands on familiar favorite stories and brings in a bevy of new ones. Nance's dedication to listening to her patients and finding personal solutions bring to mind the dedication and tenaciousness of the beloved Meredith Grey, but in an equally challenging and even more male-dominated specialty. From lying to hospital administrators to get a homeless woman a lifesaving surgery to solving a one-year long medical mystery Dr. House style, each anecdote reflects Dr. Nance's commitment to her patients and the world at large. With decades of expertise under her belt, Dr. Nance’s Little Miss Diagnosed goes beyond memoir, allowing listeners to feel they have slipped on their own white coats, solving cases and treating people, while recognizing what it’s like to live within the American health care system and the dedication it takes to move beyond it.

I’m a self proclaimed medical nerd watching and reading anything and everything medical I can get my hands on since I was small. Unfortunately due to a disability that keeps me from working, period, and the fact that numbers and I don’t get along (yanno for chem, physics, calc etc.) my life went in a completely different direction but my family and friends teasingly call me Dr. Sara.

I pre-ordered this book and began it last night (6/2/2025) pwhile falling asleep and finished it listening to it all day. The stories flowed organically step by step. I found myself wishing there were more stories to tell! (Second book requested already, Dr. Nance!!)

Oh to be able to bend Dr. Nance’s ear for a rainy afternoon…

A lifetime of experience I wish I could have had

Little Miss Diagnosed by Dr. Erin Nance is a powerful and eye-opening listen that I highly recommend. Dr. Nance not only writes with clarity and compassion, but her narration brings an added layer of authenticity and heart to the audiobook. Her voice carries the weight of her experience—as a physician and a woman who understands firsthand the frustration of being dismissed, misdiagnosed, or ignored in medical settings.

The book tackles the critical issue of how women, especially those with complex or invisible illnesses, are often overlooked in healthcare. It’s informative, validating, and empowering. Whether you’re someone who has struggled to get answers from your doctors, or you’re just trying to better understand systemic issues in medicine, this book will speak to you.

Dr. Nance’s storytelling is both personal and professional, and that balance makes the book not only educational but deeply moving. I found myself nodding along, feeling seen and understood.

This is more than just a memoir or a critique—it’s a call to action. And hearing it in her own voice made the experience even more impactful.

Empowering!!
