About this listen

My role as Moric—ruler of a small and prosperous fiefdom in a quiet corner of the world—has always been painfully dull and stifling.

Until a beautiful, otherworldly creature with pink skin and a mane of golden hair falls through a strange void that has appeared in my guestroom.

I am instantly captivated by him.

I have never seen anything like him. I have no idea where he came from, and what else is through that unsettling void—another world filled with soft-skinned, defenseless creatures like him? No tails, no horns, no claws, no sharp teeth. Tiny clothing, rounded ears, bright blue eyes. He is fascinating. And I want to keep him.

I have no idea how my citizens and councilors will react to his presence—to the knowledge that a whole other world exists, and there is a portal to it in my guestroom. As much as I try to keep him my secret, the truth starts to slip out.

Those in my fiefdom who cling desperately to power do their best to tear us apart. To take him from me.

I won't let them.

Lor is book seven of the Monstrous series, a post-apocalyptic m/m fantasy series that features monsters and human men falling in love. It is best to listen to the series in order. Intended for mature listeners.

dual pov!

i liked pretty much all the books but this one I loved. what made it 100% was the dual pov. I purposely look for books that had both characters pov because if it's only 1 sided I feel cheated. like I'm only get half the story. out of all the 7 book, this is the only book that has both povs for both mc. I still listened to the others even though it's only 1 sided pov but they were still that good to listen to. I really disliked not knowing both sides on the other books. I remember on the first book the most I always wanted to know the soul waters pov but it was only Danny's side. but then there was a book with only soul waters side but no Danny's. I would of loved what sariph? was going through in his book. but anyways I loved this books story line as well. really sad at pars but it also made it a good read. although I never find it believable when the author makes one a virgin specially at the age they are & the only excuse is the because of what he is. he still could of had a life but for some reason the authors love writing virgins in their books. even there 2 others that were virgins in the other books before. Danny & moth. I can kinda understand moth but Danny really? again make the virgins believable at least. specially this book.

Emotional

This series is absolutely epic. Lor was such an emotional roller coaster that I had to take a little breather in the middle, but the puffy eyes were well worth in the end. Can’t wait for the next book. Michael Lesley’s narration is phenomenal.

This crushed my soul but I loved it

Lily Mayne may be my favorite author ever. I was captivated the entire time during Lor and it hit me so hard in my feelings and the payoff was worth it all. Michael Lesley understood the assignment and he gave it EVERYTHING and I am so thankful for his performance really elevated the story that much more. I just loved this entirely.

I was a wreck! but sooooo worth it!

omg! omg! I was so happy and giddy then... cried and cried and felt destroyed but, wonderful and then omg! that's all I can't think now! listened from the time I woke up, all during the work day! still half way I'm home and sobbed while making dinner! This is by far the best story in the series and I am sick that we all will have to wait for more! I shall be watching and waiting listening to the whole series over again! amazing!!
* is the best way to explain it!!!!

Strong story

This was an awesome read and listen. When I originally read the book, I wasn’t sure what Lor and Lyri would sound like. So I was totally fine with this interpretation.

Michael Lesley, as always, did a fantastic job at giving each character their own distinct voice.

Lor is my absolute favorite partner in this series. If I could choose one for myself, it would be him. And Seraph would be my baby. Jugs, our human himbo is a nice guy. My only critique is I wish he felt/came off as more devoted to Lor. It sorta feels like he really likes him but isn’t in love or attached in a deeper way. I think his side of the story needed a little tweaking - I couldn’t stop feeling like he didn’t deserve Lor’s unflinching devotion, but that might just be me. This is still one of my faves from this series. Lor was really put through the wringer. I highly recommend. I can’t wait for the next installment!!

Heartbreakingly Beautiful

I’ve never been this emotionally wrecked by a book before. Why did no one warn me this was so heartbreaking?, I wanted to give up many times, my heart was shattered, I cried so much my eyes were swollen for hours, but I’m glad I kept going, the ending was just beautiful and so worth it.

Lor, omg this beautiful precious Moric, everything he went through was so painful, Lily truly made feel everything, I can still feel the pain her words caused.
And Jugs? Omg that sweet beautiful himbo is everything!

I don’t want to spoil this for anyone, but this is a must read in the series: Painfully Stunning!

I loved this book, I loved it so so much, it reached my soul and my heart in a very special way.

The ending! Wow!!! Wow!!! Wow!!!!

I cannot wait for the next books, also Seis and Gryf totally deserve their books as well.
This series is everything.

Emotional impact

Lor is equally awesome as the rest of the Monstrous series. Having read the novel before listening, the story was known to me; but the emotional impact is just as intense through the narration as reading, if not more so.

There are a couple of I think unintentionally slightly comical voice acting moments (during sex scenes), but the TWENTY HOUR audiobook is spectacularly narrated by Michael Lesley. The character voices are distinct and consistent, and his reading perfectly consistent with the emotional content of the text for the entire story.

OH MAN does this story go for the emotional hits. It's fantastically done, but just be prepared for so very many tears

Unlike the other books in the Monstrous series (not counting the 3.5 "novella" Wyn), the narrative is split between Jugs and Lor for the entire story, and the majority of this story is told from Lor's POV. (This makes sense for the unfolding plot events.) Also unlike the other books (also except 3.5), this takes place mostly in the Monster's world, which is really cool. It's also lacking the "sudden bouts of violence" - which given the setting, makes sense.

I love so many things about this book, but one of my favorites is how expressive Jugs and Lor are af their emotions. (At least to each other.)

If you're invested in the Monstrous series and haven't read this yet, it's an emotional gauntlet, but so worth it. Possibly you could start here, but you'd be missing out on a lot of context and ancillary world building. Granted, not critical to understanding the story, but so neccessary to appreciate the full richness of what Lily Mayne has crafted so far.

SPOILERS:
It's ok in the end. I promise. 💙
