About this listen

Sometimes a villain is not a villain, and first impressions have to change....

When the disgraced kelpie of Loch Lomond, Murdoch, discovers a new threat to his homeland, he finds a loophole in his banishment to show up at Sorcha Darrow’s door. Despite initial misgivings about Murdoch’s plea for help, Sorcha quickly agrees to help the creature out of guilt for what she did to him two years ago in the faerie realm.

Lachlan, now the king of the Seelie Court, is less than happy about the kelpie’s reappearance by Sorcha’s side. Fuelled by jealousy and possessiveness, he considers once more finding out his mortal paramour’s full name in order to take her away from Murdoch forever.

But trouble is brewing between the Seelie and Unseelie Courts, and Murdoch and Sorcha - now travelling down to London to deal with the threat to their home - may just be caught in the middle of it.

The second book in the Bright Spear trilogy, Lord of Horses is loosely based on the Celtic fairy tale of The Kelpie Bride, and features a cameo from Scarlett and Adrian from Big, Bad Mister Wolfe (Chronicles of Curses, Book 1).

Note: Lord of Horses is written in UK (British) English, not American English.

This is a continuation from the Prince of Foxes where all the characters first meet and Sorcha ends up with the kelpie’s bridle. Now the kelpie needs his bridle back so that he can travel to London to save his and Sorcha’s home. The adventure begins in London with a meeting and Sorcha explores on her own and gets scared from strange things. In the end the kelpie and the fox must work together to save the woman they both love from the evil king. She ends up giving up a bunch of her years of life to save the two men. The narrator did a wonderful job telling the story. I look forward to the last book in the series to see how it all ends up.

After having listened to book one with the fairy fox and the Scottish lock lass l just knew l has to proceed to the story of the Loch horse. Both stories were at times a heartrending love story filled with treachery, horrors, trickery and innocence. Now the future looks set but l hope the next book proves otherwise.

I loved the magical creatures in this story and the complicated plot. Villains are not who you think they are.

Epic fantasy

A great second book! I enjoyed this one better than the first. I love the characters and can't wait to see what happens in the third book! I like that the faeries are still on the dark side but these ones also have a heart and care about people and I love having the kelpie in the story since we don't see them very often. I will admit that I liked the first book a little better but did still really enjoyed book two as well. The lack of monogamy bothers me and honestly this series isn't a love triangle it's some type of celtic knot. This one centers around Murdock and Sorcha trying to save the land and the loch by going to London together. The seelie and unseelie are on the edge of fighting and the hidden enemies are closing in. This book like the first one is very much a romance there is nudity and lots of build up scenes, but the author does eventually close the bedroom door. So as a parent I would definitely recommend as an +18 reader series. I really enjoyed getting to know the kelpie and understanding more about his type of creature. The narrator does a great job and with his rich accent was a lot of fun to listen to. Even more impressive he sings at different times in the story and does a decent job at it. I can't wait to see where it goes in the final book. —I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I really enjoyed this story. Sorcha's adventure to London was a very dangerous one. The unseelie were hunting her and she didn't know it until it was to late. Murdoch was trying to save his home with her help. He did not know that Sorcha was in so much danger but he fought for his true love. The narrator did a great job.
