About this listen

It's Nina Landry's birthday, and she's supposed to have her kids ready to leave in a few hours for a Christmas holiday in Florida with her new boyfriend. But her 15-year-old daughter, Charlie, spent the night at a friend's and hasn't come home yet. Not by 10 a.m., not by 11.....

Nina is getting angry - they have a plane to catch, and Charlie hasn't even bothered to pack. As time passes, slower and slower by the minute, Nina becomes uneasy. Her anger gives way to worry, and that worry quickly builds into panic.

By 1 p.m., she's wondering if Charlie has run away or if something far worse happened. And why won't anyone - not the cops, not Charlie's friends, not Charlie's father - take her disappearance seriously?

As day turns to night at Nina's home on Sandling Island, 60 miles from London, a series of ominous secrets leads Nina from sickening suspicion to deadly certainty. The question becomes less whether she and her daughter will leave the island in time and more whether they'll ever leave it again.

Anne Flosnik enlivens the writings of Nicci French

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I recommend this book to all who enjoy fast-paced, if somewhat predictible, thrillers. Nicci French never disappoints in terms of offering entertaining reads that are both hard to put away and memorable. Anne Flosnik's voice is perfect for brining the Nicci French works to life.

Gripping story about a mother's love

If you could sum up Losing You in three words, what would they be?

Tightly crafted suspense

Who was your favorite character and why?

Nina Landry, who never lets anything stand in her way of finding her daughter.

What about Anne Flosnik’s performance did you like?

I didn't particularly like this narrator. She did an okay job, but her accent was a little too snooty for the character, in my opinion.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Can't share it without spoiling, so I won't answer that.

Any additional comments?

Lovely story as always from Nicci French!

A Helicopter Parent's Dream

Before I write anything, know that I'm normally a fan of Nicci French. But this book, a fantasy about the classic "helicopter parent" (one who, in spite of the fact she wasn't really paying attention to her kid when she was around, knows everything and is better than all the "so-called experts" (i.e. the police) when it comes to her child), was simply a disappointment.

Hate Nina Landry

I just wanted to slap Nina Landry and shake her. The story was like listening to fingernails on a chalkboard
