About this listen

From the internationally best-selling author of The Lying Room, a sexy, intricate thriller about the temptation of secrets, the weight of lies, and the price of betrayal and suspicion.

Who is more dangerous? An enemy, a friend, or a lover?

When Bonnie Graham arrives at her boyfriend’s apartment in London, she is horrified to discover a dead body in a pool of blood on the floor. But she doesn’t call the police. Bonnie hides the corpse and then carefully wipes away any evidence she was ever there.

Bonnie is a music teacher who spent a long, hot summer in London rehearsing with a band to play at a friend’s wedding. It was supposed to be fun, but the band members find the complicated knots of their friendships - some old, some new - unraveling as the days themselves unwind. What was meant to be a summer of happiness, love, and music turns deadly as lovers betray one another, passions turn murderous, and friendship itself becomes a crime.

Everyone tells lies. But is anyone prepared to tell the truth to uncover a murderer?

I tore through this one....

Not only am I Imogen Churchs' biggest fan, I really enjoyed the first Nicci French book I read so this was a must read! I really enjoyed the story and the characters. The suspense was held right up until the end! I won't give anything away however I would love to know what happened after it ended!!!!! Great read!

Slow moving

Decent storyline and characters but kept getting lost in the format and bits of it were too slow. But then the end seemed to be rushed

Great Listen

The characters were in depth so I got to know them all and the ending was a surprise. Loved this one. Narrator Imogen Church was excellent as usual. I'm putting these authors on my favorites list. No wonder both the male and female characters were authentic. A husband and wife team writing is genius.

Just ok

The story was just ok. I honestly wouldn’t have finished if Imogen Church hadn’t have been the narrator. It was supposed to be suspense? But I found the ending very anti climactic and rather boring.

might be a great tv series but...

I found the play on the event sequence failed as an experiment in novel form. But, it might make an interesting tv script and series. I found less of interest in the psychology of the characters and the plot dragged still with the right casting it could be made into something more. it needs an adaptation. Could be fun.

Good Listen, But Not my Favorite

I tend to listen to mostly domestic mystery audio books, so this review is really based on comparing this listen to the many others like it that keep me glued to this genre.

I liked this book and it kept my interest, but it didn’t fall into the edge of my seat, can’t stop listening list. If I was to recommend some books to my friends, I probably wouldn’t put this on the list.

I think that the grand revelation of this book fell a little flat. I wouldn’t say it was predictable, but it felt too much like a plot twist was being forced. I thought that the reasons the characters gave for their actions were slightly diluted. My personal guesses as to the “why done it” seemed far more jarring than what the actual ending gave, so when things were explained my frontmost reaction was “really? That’s it?”

If you’ve also listened to a lot of books in this genre, this might not be your favorite, but it’s an okay listen. I’ve definitely listened to worse books, and have also listened to far better books that I still think about years later. I don’t think this will be a very memorable listen, but also don’t feel like I completely wasted my time or credit.

Pass

Wish I would have passed on this one. By the end, I wasn’t sure if I was mad that I wasted 10+ hours listening to this awful book or happy that it was finally over. I gave 3 stars for performance because Imogen Church is awesome and the only reason why I actually listened to the whole book.
