About this listen

Better the devil you know than the devil you don't. At least that's what they say.

Cara Warden has been chosen by Aldrich to be his bride. Saying no to Aldrich isn't an option. He owns the food source, the water, and the weapons that protect the town from the creatures outside the wall that surrounds the town.

When Cara can't say no and refuses to say yes, she's left with only one option. She'll have to escape Aldrich. She'll take her chances against the creatures who've killed every hunter who's dared leave the town since the shifter pack arrived.

Outside the wall, she's being stalked by one of the shifters. He calls himself Darian. He's dangerous and mysterious. Cara can't figure out if he's trying to help her or if he's just toying with her, playing with his food.

Will Cara be able to escape Aldrich? Will Darian be the creature who spares her, or will he be the devil that leaves her to the wolves?

This is a standalone with a happily-ever-after ending and no cliffhanger. This audiobook also contains several additional bonus stories to enjoy!

Warning: This audiobook depicts graphic scenes of a sexual nature and is not intended for listeners under 18.

Left over from a writing workshop?

In a word - sophomoric. Both the writing and the performance. Especially if you have listened to Jill Redfield perform one of Suzanne Wright’s Phoenix pack novels!

Interesting start to a series

The story started slightly slowly, but once it got going it was a quick enjoyable listen. It's set in a time after shifters have been revealed to the humans and there's huge antagonism and prejudice between the different groups. The story has strong characters, action, mystery, resolution of prejudices and openings for more characters to have their HEA.

Survival..

Well written... for some reason I was looking for more action.....was there another book before this one? The way it was written feel as if it's the prelude to an even bigger story....
Either way it was a good short story of survival for shifters and protecting those living behind a wall.

Love Beyond the Wall

Great introduction to the series. Cara is a human living in a town ruled by a mean man and surrounded by a wall to keep them safe from the shifters outside. But when she learns she's to be the wife of the leader, she decides to take her chances and escape. Once she does, she slowly discovers things aren't as they've been told when she gets rescued and cared for by the shifters. Darian is the leader of the shifters and wants to kill the human leader for his betrayal of the pack after they helped them. He thinks all humans are as bad as the leader until he meets Cara, realizes she's his mate, and she shows him the error of his ways. Fast-paced and full of action this was a great story brought to life by the narrator who does a great job depicting the nature of the characters and bringing them to life.

Awesome Listen!!

Good storyline and enjoyable. I enjoyed listening to this book. Good listen, great narrator and good characters. Everything flowed nicely. I liked it a lot. The narrator occasionally confused me but after a while I just moved beyond it and got into the story. I think if the narration had been by both male and female it wouldn't have been so confusing. But otherwise I loved it!
