About this listen

According to relationship expert and best-selling author Dr. Willard F. Harley, Jr., after couples get married, they often develop habits that slowly undermine the love they have for each other. If tolerated, these love busters - selfish demands, disrespectful judgments, angry outbursts, dishonesty, annoying habits, and independent behavior - will destroy a couple's love for each other. The solution, however, isn't merely to avoid these negative behaviors and attitudes. Rather, it's to cultivate love builders - positive habits that will strengthen the relationship.

With Dr. Harley's expert guidance, couples will be able to avoid the major causes of marital unhappiness and disappointment. Instead of tearing their marriage apart, they will learn to build it into the marriage they had needed and wanted. This book is a perfect companion to His Needs, Her Needs and will be useful to pastors, counselors, and couples.

The principle of enthusiastic mutual agreement

Book was fantastic. Like anything else the knowledge is only as good as you apply it. Sort of like having a gym membership is only beneficial if you actually go.

What a great book!

This book goes perfectly with his other book. His needs her needs, and I did not want to put it down. It is so informative and eye-opening for things that are already right under your nose you just didn’t focus on. Thank you so much!

I also love that the writer of the book is also the narrator, it makes it that much more involved

Outstanding!

The first useful marriage book that actually gets to core issues instead of just attempting to communicate around them.

Saved my marriage! Also redundant, but worth it!

I honestly feel this book saved my marriage. I read the book on my own, and implemented change in my end, and encouraging my husband to read specific chapters and do some of the exercises with me. This book was so incredibly valuable! I recommend it for any couple whether they are in a healthy loving relationship or one that is struggling. It is so good to be aware of the things that destroy love. Still worth the read, but I honestly felt like the main points were super redundant and repetitive. 5 stars none the less. Enjoy!

Painful, shortsighted and limited on actual new information

Warning: as I got put off by the stories the author shares which seem to demonstrate his own value to himself, it was hard to take the rest seriously. Very hard.

Man and wife of 50 years, he’s not happy. She doesn’t orgasm. Author gives wife a book on how to have orgasms and they are “fixed”. WTF

Man marries. They have kids. Wife pays attention to kids. Man Fs secretary. Man marries secretary. Secretary has kids. Secretary (wife) has kids. Secretary (wife) pays attention to kids. Man Fs new Secretary. Man marries new Secretary and seeks counseling because he sees the pattern. Author works with him and man is happily married with “final” wife who didn’t have kids. Yeah. Sure. Your counseling solved it. Never mind the completely different dynamic of no kids for the last go round. Sheesh!

Maybe the nuggets within this book work for those who are from or stuck in the 60s but the number of references to wife cleaning kitchen while man watches TV. Sheesh. Are there actually still households like that?

First step to recover from an affair: break off contact from the person with whom you’ve had an affair. No Fing $&/+. Does anyone in the world have to get that advice from a book???

Yes. There are concepts in this book that will help. No there is NO NEW information that you don’t already know.

If your marriage is really struggling

Because I loved his needs her needs I thought I would give this book a go, but it felt very depressing and made me over analyze any bad moments in my marriage. I can see if your marriage is in a really bad place (distancing, big arguments, abuse, deep hurt) that this could be good for you. But if you just want to improve your marriage this is not it.
Brilliant author. Just not what I needed.
