About this listen

How much power is in the written word? Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy is determined to find out.

Crushed beyond measure at the rejection of his proposal, Darcy struggles to explain both the facts and his feelings by letter to the only woman he will ever love. Can such a reticent man find the words to enable Elizabeth Bennet to know the man behind the mask? Will she read his carefully crafted epistle once he delivers it into her hand? Will he catch even a small glimmer of hope?

Affection and respect. Two magical words Miss Elizabeth never expected to hear from the last man in the world she would ever marry, yet they undeniably appear before her eyes in black and white. Devotion and adoration. Humph!

Follow literature's most beloved couple during the weeks following the disastrous proposal as a series of heartfelt missives has created such havoc in Elizabeth's heart that she is finally moved to write him back. Will hers be a letter of love as well?

In this sweet novella-length variation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, we will see love bloom and grow.

An excellent narration by Jannie Meisberger. Her performance is lively and exuberant, but not overdone and is very pleasing and satisfying. Oh how I love letters, especially love letters from Darcy to Elizabeth. Darcy’s gestures through his last letters before the ending make him especially romantic.

On a side note, I love this quote, “You are ending a sentence with a preposition, Mother. It is not done.” —Anne to Lady Catherine. Ha! This has always been pet peeve with me, so I had to laugh out loud. Although, perhaps JD King is making sport of picky readers like me?

Delightful

I hated Elizabeth, she was demanding and full of herself and actually everything that she accuses Mr Darcy of being. She talks about needing to change but doesn’t but still expects him to.

Write an Elizabeth I will like!

This is a sweet read that lacks all the ponderous drama of the original. We are left with delightful characters and unique solutions to the Canon dilemmas. The resolutions are every bit as enjoyable as the original.

I like this author, but the obstacles thrown up here to delay the enemies-to-lovers resolution felt silly and forced. That said, the culmination of the last letter was lovely. Other characters felt very underdeveloped. I just couldn’t believe what a slog this - one of the shortest stories I’ve listened to - was. The narration was rough.

Surprisingly Disappointing

Dawn King is one of my favorite authors of P&P fiction. I found this Elizabeth so disagreeable that I didn’t finish this book. I look forward to King’s other books.

An unexpected disappointment.

I could not listen to the narration. Just terrible, it was too distracting and dragged out.

Struggled with the characters being so different from the original P&P characters. Hated Lizzy's character. The story seemed forced.
