About this listen

Welcome to Clean Slate Ranch: Home of tight jeans, cowboy boots and rough trails. For some men, it’s a fantasy come true.

Shawn Matthews never imagined he’d be living out of his car, trying to make ends meet, but life doesn’t always go your way - he knows that better than most. When an accident leaves the Clean Slate Ranch shorthanded, Shawn is enlisted to help cook and finds himself bunked next to the sexiest cowboy he’s ever laid eyes on.

The first time Robin Butler spots the new chef, he thinks he’s seeing an actual ghost. Shawn is the spitting image of his late husband, and it spooks the hell out of him. The former rodeo-star-turned-ranch-hand does his best to avoid the soft-spoken cook - except it’s kind of tough when the man makes the best damn grub this side of the Mississippi and has a boy-next-door charm that’s impossible to resist.

Even though the tension between them practically sizzles, Shawn doesn’t do hookups and Robin isn’t ready for a new relationship. Besides, Robin can tell Shawn’s been hurt and deserves a partner who isn’t saddled with a tragic past. But chemistry doesn’t lie. Maybe finding each other - and a second chance at love - is the lucky break they both need.

Beautiful and captivating romance❤️❤️❤️

Oh I love this story, really love both MC Shawn and Robin, Soo sexy but with enough depth of character to hook you deep into their lives and their sad background that shaped them into stronger hero that ultimately bonded them together into such a beautiful couple❤️❤️❤️

Greg Boudreaux give voices to all the characters in the story perfectly and I’m just in love with the way he brings all of them into life with his rich tones that swept you into the weaves of the story so effortlessly, especially the way he manages to give Shawn a bit higher tone of voice to display his uncertainty and shyness, and yet switching around next into a bit deeper voice to entice listeners to Robin sensuality that hides scars of tragedy, breaks my heart listening to both their tragic memories unfolding, but it’s what makes them stronger together, now what are you waiting for? go and purchase this amazing story, you won’t regret the credit used, believe me it’s worth it!!👍

narration was awesome!

Would I listen to it again: yes ✔
Did the story keep me engaged: yes ✔
Was I invested in the characters: so, so much! ✔

📖 Story comment: Good pace, interesting characters and delightful slow build romance. I liked that Robin was respectful of Shawn's feelings, and that there was more story than se*y times. My heart broke for both these guys and I just want to give them a big grandma hug!

🎧 Narrator comment: The narration increased my enjoyment of this story tenfold - I ran the full gamut of emotions with this one and loved every second!
I love Greg Boudreaux as a narrator. Every book he narrates is a master performance. He has a good range of characters so its easy to distinguish them from each other and has a way of subtly altering his tone so it's easy to distinguish a characters inner monologue from the standard dialog which is a real skill for a narrator. He has good cadence, inflections and intonations and he really knows how to bring characters and their story to life.

My least favorite in the series so far.

4th book in the series & my least favorite so far. The formula is getting a little tired, but I knew what to expect when I signed on for a M/M series centered around a dude ranch. No real complaint there, though it does look like the storyline for the next book strays out of that lane a bit & I'm looking forward to it. My issue was really with main character, Shawn.

*spoiler alert*
I found myself getting very frustrated with Shawn's insecurities & jealousy, most of which seemed unrelated to anything that Robin had actually done, but just bloomed & festered in his mind of their own free will. I get him having trust issues in general and definitely understand why he would want to take things slow, but the immediate jump to actual jealousy in almost every situation felt unsubstantiated given his lack of prior dating or relationships. I almost gave up on the whole book with less than 2 hrs until the end because I just wanted him to stop jumping to conclusions.
I also found fairly annoying that it was pointed out on numerous occasions during character building in the first part of the story that Shawn thought about how he could lie to get out of 'insert current situation here', but since he's an honest person, a good guy, he didn't.??? Speaking as an honest person, I literally never catch myself having an internal monologue about how I could lie right now, but think I'll just go ahead & stick w/the truth instead. Much less 3-4 times within a 2 day span.

So yeah...I've enjoyed the series as a whole, am looking forward to continuing it and will most likely even listen to this book again if I redo the entire series at some point down the road, but only for continuity purposes to appease my OCD.
Greg Boudreaux, as always, did an excellent job with narration.
