madness mad-nes n (14c): the quality or state of being mad: a: rage b: insanity c: extreme folly d: ecstasy, enthusiasm.

And, added in the margins of the dictionary owned by James Tremont, the ninth duke of Parkerton, one additional definition:

e: the state of finding oneself mistaken for a solicitor by a duke-hunting beauty who needs to be enthusiastically taught the true meaning of love.

Rage, insanity, extreme folly, and ecstasy will most likely be involved.

3.5 stars for story. It is a good love story but the plot lacks originality. It is the same plot as Book 3 = A desperate woman needs marry for money and to secure her sisters future. The woman needs and craves Big $$ so she will only marry a Duke. She Runs into said Duke when he is in a poor man's attire. She mistakenly hires the man to work for her. Though she had immediately fallen in love with the low commonershe is torn because she must marry a wealthy Duke. Instead she decides to keep company with the commoner who surprise surprise turns out to be the Duke.

There are differences in the two stories but it focuses only on the differences in the characters personalities. Elinor may look like Felicity but she is not as enterprising. In fact Elinor is much more common in her ways, her thinking. She and her sister are actually in physical danger which Felicity never was. James is also quite the opposite ofThatcher, as he enjoys his lineage & station in life. He is pompous and out of touch with reality of the common man. But he slowly comes around to understanding this about himself. He is apposed to marriage for very differentreasons and as that secret reveals itself the Duke becomes a very lovable fellow. I can understand why some readers find it a bit insulting to the fans. I did too at first but the writing is very good and really funny at times and the MCs are so very different than the D&D in book 3 that I can almost overlook the glaring similarities.

Good but Clone on Book3

Of course, Susan Duerden is a masterful narrator. The story is a bit insipid. The plot is circular and really doesn’t move forward. It feels like it should have been 5 hours instead of 9.

UPDATE: The audiobook has been fixed to include the ending that is in the book whereas it was previously cutoff.

I got this audiobook on it's release date 2/4/2021 and the ending had been cutoff but it's fixed now. I love all the books in the Bachelor Chronicles.

UPDATE 3/2/2021: Ending has been fixed!!

This was charming and fun, steamy and exciting. I enjoyed the many perspectives, including the shenanigans of the servants. This one felt similar to felicity’s story with the footman mistaken identity; but it was charming.

Fun

Wonderful storyline!!

The heroine was stupid. Throughout the entire book the heroine thought the hero was a lawyer instead of a duke. Everybody knew the truth but her.

Stupid Heroine

As someone who read the book I was disappointed that the last couple of pages were left out.

Disappointed

This book was way to similar to Love letters from a Duke. Not my favorite in the series. Eleanor was really not all that smart. Ugh what a dummy!

Hard to get through.

Great series!

Normally love Boyle but this one is all deception and boring. I wadded thru it only to be very disappointed with soap opera un-ending.

Spoiler! Tedious with To Be Continued Ending
