About this listen

Rune Tellarus always wanted to become a Guardian: a powerful warrior bonded to a magic-wielding woman known as an Adeptal Mage.

Except he failed the test as a youth. He thought he would never get the chance to study at their Academy nor learn magic. But after a terrible tragedy in a nobleman's home, he finds himself suddenly bonded with the nobleman's daughter, Narcissa. This bonding is an irrevocable merging of two spirits that grants both Mage and Guardian magical gifts.

Yet Rune hardly knows Narcissa. The beautiful nobleman's daughter hides a secret, one that the kingdom's mages would do anything to uncover. Now, Rune and Narcissa find themselves on the run, in a city filled with Mages and Guardians who will do anything to capture them. If the pair is going to survive, they'll need to cultivate their bond and learn new magical abilities. But will it be enough for their bond to grow into something more?

Rune might have to discover something about himself he never knew, a secret that could lead to establishing bonds with multiple Adeptal Mages...

Mage Guardian contains unconventional relationships and multiple bondings between the main character and mages.

It is a Fantasy, but unrealistic

Before I give my review, please note I bought this book on a whim and didn't fully understand what I was buying.

The Good: Is absolutely the narration, Rozelyn Radar is better than Lewis Alexander in my opinion (he sounded robotic in the beginning). However, they were good together as they created very defining voices for each character and made it very easy to tell characters apart.

The Bad: The story is 7/10 young boys fantasy on what an Alpha male deserves and 2/10 on how they think they can achieve a harem with a perfect symbiotic relationship with everyone, and 1/10 story progression. Far too much of the story is divided up for the relationship status queue for me to "finish" (lol) this story. He created a character that is paradoxically to his moral character and deeds. The woman, while they do have diverse personalities, can ultimately be placed on how easy is it for the MC to get with and how they look objectively. I like my romance in a story, but this is pretty much lust, and lust hidden as love (don't lie to yourself if you think it is otherwise).

Good story, but some inconsistencies

I have enjoyed this series. Great performance and good writing. My only complaint is that there are some inconsistencies that are used to move the plot forward. For example, a magic bond allows the MC to know exactly where his bonded are, but then there is a huge effort to find someone rather than just sensing them. It isn't enough of an issue to spoil the book for me though.

From Crass Plot Armor to Gentle Romance

Do you recall how important the first few sentences are to a review? If someone would skip reading before continuing? If you made it this far, I actually enjoyed this book. But, not for the story, but the Romance. Other reviews misplace love for lust, but they are one and the same, emphasized through the relationship building with each woman. The MC is challenged by his own feelings, trying to guard his own heart against puppy love, but caving to lust, as any man would when interacting with a turned on partner.

The romance I found thrilling belongs to a craving, a yearning for his women, a desire to please and do anything for them. Despite all his plot armor, as he collects more, his Achilles heel grows larger and dangerous.

The Cons: If you read this far, thanks! I believe the greatest crux out of all the cons, would be Chapter one. The way it was written was too comic book-like, and the narrators couldn’t do it Justice, like they do throughout the book. Last, I have come to despise justification of having knowledge from your backstory. It pulls me out of the story too often with an eye roll. Even if that trope is popular with Isekai & LITRPG novels. This story isn’t an Isekai, but each occurrence made me think it was.

The Pros: Incredible performance by our narrators! I would come back to this story just for every bookmark created, and for the “working the problem” to the very end. The MC is very empathetic, which I resonated with.

Good story

It was pretty good it's an interesting world and I like the magic system. The set up for the second book makes it seem like it'll be very cloak and dagger I'm not a huge fan of a bunch of that so we'll see if I continue the series.

A fantasy genre story with some who done it mixed in.

In this world the magic system is based on paired teams, a mage (female) and a guardian (male). Children are tested at a young age for their sensitivity to magic and are then paired up in these teams where the 2 members are “bonded” together.
In a kind of LitRPG style, the teams can earn a special currency to purchase access to higher tiers of magic sets.
Likes: Interesting magic set/rules. Character’s motivations are simple and direct. The story moves along without any “slow” spots.
Cons: Several chapters are right out fantasy erotica. These chapters play out like what a 15 year old boy thinks a romance novel sounds like.

OK book.

I love the gist of the story but the explicit sex is too much and way too long (full chapters and multiple partners) unfortunately. I probably won’t read anymore of this authors books.

God this is a white knight fantasy.

in the story one of the girls commit on how he thinks of other women as more then just a sex object. right after he thought about a girl's curbs how big her best are now they arnt being pushed down by clothes and how he can see the gap between here thighs being back lit. the mc hasn't had a single thought that wasn't about on hot and sexy these women are. but he can't because they don't have any personality. if it wasn't for the narrator giving them different voices you wouldn't be able to tell who is talking. this dude doesn't understand what love is. all he talk about is sex, lust, and passion. again he can't say one thing he loves about her that wasn't about her looks.
