Not a bad start for a urban fantasy serie...

...but it is a bit short for a 1 credit book. I will get the box-set when the time comes.

Enjoyable

Surprisingly, I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. There’s no great. I think Rath made the book for me, his antics with Max the dog as they set of on their “training” adventures were downright funny. Overall, there’s nothing special about this book, it’s a pretty run of the mill urban fantasy, bad guys trying to take over the world and the good guys out to stop them. It’s the little pockets of fun that makes the book work.

pretty good stuff.

some things that made me laugh and some things that are different from other mage books. I'm going to do the second book and see where the story goes. its promising. would be a five if there was a touch more development but it fits the story line . pick it up and see if you agree with me.

An enjoyable new series

We meet FBI agent Diana Sheen, she is trying to subdue two suspects and free hostages. Later she is recruited by Black-ops Agents of Magic (BAM). It is an organization that deals with threats to their country that involve the use of magic. Most of the story is filled with her training with BAM and trying to save the world from the nefarious plans from a power seeking Oriceran group. Diana is a fighter, trained in martial arts, intelligent, and dedicated to her job and the people she loves. Her backups are her Borzoi dog Max and Rath, the troll who adopted her. They have their own adventures training.
Note: The Oriceran universe is created by Michael Anderle and used in his Kurtherian Universe. You do not have to read those books to enjoy is series.

Light, a little humor, good background listen

I actually found this a comfortable, but definitely not absorbing, listen. It's good for housework, or having it on while you are quilting, sewing, whatever. There's actually no real overarching plot. There's just a very likeable, very competent woman main character, and a very likeable, somewhat bumbling but friendly and supportive male main character. There's a Borzoi dog and a young troll who likes action movies on tv. In all, it's an ok read, like I said, no real plot, just a woman going from a regular investigative position, to a secret magic-oriented detective position, and thence forward it's pretty much one thing after another requiring her to fight the bad guys. She does a good job of it. She gets a promotion at the end, and is going off to head her own new office in the magical policing agency, in Pittsburgh. It's not quite a "cozy", but it's definitely not grisly or grim, it's pretty much a comfy listen, with quite a bit of punching and arresting bad guys.

Quite entertaining

If you enjoy suspense, magic and strong females, this story is humorous and definitely worth listening to. The narrators voice was great, and the storyline was lighthearted.
