Publisher's summary

Looking for the perfect mix of smart, sexy, and sassy? Mai Tai’d Up continues USA Today best-selling author Alice Clayton's Cocktail series, which began with Wallbanger and continued with Rusty Nailed and Screwdrivered.

Eligible bachelor Lucas Campbell is very available, but very picky. A veterinarian in Monterey, California, his life is perfect: He works, he sails, he loves the ocean and the mountains - so why rock the boat? Then Miss Chloe Patterson comes along.

Chloe has the body of a supermodel, the mouth of a sailor, and the fashion sense of teenage guy in 1990s Seattle. A former Miss California, she walked away from a cushy life, bought an old ranch outside Monterey, and turned it into Our Gang, a sanctuary for rescued and abandoned pit bulls. A woman who’s clearly not afraid of dog poop, she enjoys rehabilitating her "warrior angels".

Local gossip reports that she ditched her fiancé the night before their wedding (true), and that she moved up north to start a new life (also true). She didn't want to be tied down (true), but she wouldn't mind being tied up - especially by that hot vet she's seen around town a few times (true, true, and have-you-seen-his-butt?-true).

But is Chloe ready to date again? And is Lucas ready to take on not only Chloe, but forty pit bulls? One moonlit sail, two bottles of wine, and a few sailor knots might just do the trick.

Sweet, Funny & Sexy!

I absolutely adore the writing of Alice Clayton. In my opinion, she cannot write a bad story. This book is funny, charming, sweet and sexy - a unique blend between chick lit and contemporary romance. Quality narration only enhanced an already good thing.

Dog rescuer finds love

Fun book. Well written romance has unusual pit bull rescuing beauty pageant winner as the main character. Short and straight forward with less sex than the cover would leave you to expect.

I only enjoyed two books of the series.

I ordered these books when I first got audible years and years ago and I still have not made it through them a few of them are pretty good but not all of them some of them are extremely hard to get through and I never did get through them I'm actually tired of looking at them in my library.

Fun & Sexy

Mai Taid Up was not quite as entertaining as the other Alice Clayton boss but fun nonetheless.

What book did they read?!?!

Any additional comments?

I need to critique the Publisher Summary because I’m pretty sure the person who wrote it didn’t actually read the book. It’s incredibly misleading and I was disappointed when all the promised good bits never materialized in the book.

“Eligible bachelor Lucas Campbell is very available, but very picky.” Uh, where did it say this anywhere in the story? Are we now considering guys who don’t like liars as “picky?” “

[H]is life is perfect: He works, he sails, he loves the ocean and the mountains - so why rock the boat?” His life is not perfect. His fiancé dumped him at the altar and he’s kinda messed up about it. The closest we get to him sailing is the scene where he teaches Chloe to paddle board and the ocean and the mountains really don’t get much of a mention.

“Chloe has the body of a supermodel, the mouth of a sailor, and the fashion sense of teenage guy in 1990s Seattle.” This woman does not have the mouth of a sailor. In fact, she rarely cusses at all. She says “fudge” a lot because she was taught a lady doesn’t swear. The “fudge” thing was actually really annoying considering I was expecting a potty-mouth heroine.

“One moonlit sail, two bottles of wine, and a few sailor knots might just do the trick.” NONE OF THIS HAPPENED!! This is where I was the most disappointed. I was hoping the reference to being tied up meant this book was going to have a little bit of kink thrown in for good measure but no, there is no tying up. There are no sailor knots. In fact, there isn’t even a moonlit sail. And they don’t drink wine, they make cocktails all the time. Seriously, WHO WROTE THIS SUMMARY?!?!?!

As for the book itself, I thought it was cute but lacking. Heather Smith did a wonderful job with the narration so I am sorry there wasn’t more for her to do. You knew instantly what the conflict was going to be between the two main characters (which was pretty lame) but it took forever for them to get there. Then when they did get there the resolution just sort of…happened. There was some really great build-up between the characters and their chemistry was on par with other pairings from Alice Clayton but then poof, nothing. It just sort of resolved itself without us getting to witness how it really happened. Overall I was just disappointed with this one. It felt like the author was just phoning it in and Chloe and Lucas deserved better than that. They really had a lot of potential but their story just kind of stalled and came to an abrupt end. I was almost hoping for a cliffhanger, thinking the second book would give me more of what I wanted as they rebuilt their relationship but nope.

All in all there was a lot of great banter and we got to revisit a few characters from the other books, but this one definitely doesn’t hold up to the standards set in Wallbanger.

Good but not what I expected

The first books of this series were a lot more erotic and tied in well together. Although this is a good book, it is very tame compared to the others in the series and I am not sure where it ties into the series.

Storyline, WTF?

What disappointed you about Mai Tai'd Up?

Well... The previous reviewer sums it up pretty perfectly. Expecting to get something completely different... Very disappointed. Nothing wrong with the story itself, perfectly pretty and sweet but not what I thought I was paying for.

What could Alice Clayton have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Don't think this is Alice Clayton's fault - Audible, where the HELL did you dig up this introduction!?!?!?

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes, nothing wrong with the narration.
