#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • THE BLOCKBUSTER JACK REACHER SERIES THAT INSPIRED TWO MAJOR MOTION PICTURES AND THE STREAMING SERIES REACHER

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR:
Los Angeles Times, The Guardian, Suspense magazine • Stephen King calls Jack Reacher “the coolest continuing series character”—and now he’s back in this masterly new thriller from Lee Child.

“Why is this town called Mother’s Rest?” That’s all Reacher wants to know. But no one will tell him. It’s a tiny place hidden in a thousand square miles of wheat fields, with a railroad stop, and sullen and watchful people, and a worried woman named Michelle Chang, who mistakes him for someone else: her missing partner in a private investigation she thinks must have started small and then turned lethal.

Reacher has no particular place to go, and all the time in the world to get there, and there’s something about Chang . . . so he teams up with her and starts to ask around. He thinks: How bad can this thing be? But before long he’s plunged into a desperate race through LA, Chicago, Phoenix, and San Francisco, and through the hidden parts of the internet, up against thugs and assassins every step of the way—right back to where he started, in Mother’s Rest, where he must confront the worst nightmare he could imagine.

Walking away would have been easier. But as always, Reacher’s rule is: If you want me to stop, you’re going to have to make me.

Great book!

Great Reacher book, as always! I love how Dick Hill reads, he truly is how I would picture Reacher sounding. The story had me guessing all the way to the end!

A trip to the dark side

Another Reacher adventure. Charters were well, developed and easy to follow. Interesting plot which held interest throughout. Dick Hill is always great.

This was abridged.

This is an abridged version of the novel. More like a comic book without art.

Same story different location and girl

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

all my friends who have read this agree with my comment

What was most disappointing about Lee Child’s story?

I have read every Jack Reacher book and love them. This one wasn't exciting or thrilling. It was more Reacher just ambling along and oh yes--someone needs his help.

Which character – as performed by Dick Hill – was your favorite?

Dick Hill was the saving grace of this book. I have listened to him on other books but HE IS JACK REACHER! He is fabulous and I would have quit the book if it wasn't for his narration.

What character would you cut from Make Me?

no one

Any additional comments?

a little more action. it seemed too sedate

Tedious

I'm an avid Jack reacher fan, but this novel locked his usual flare and personality. I just didn't care for the characters and the way it went on and on with practically no action until the end. Disappointing

I didn't read this because the stupid Abridged

why what I want to read half of the book. Who reads these Abridged Editions? is a 14 hour book cut down to 7 hours. Why? one of these days I'll find the real book and read it this is a waste of my time.

I should have listened to this previous reviews.

I've read and enjoyed every Reacher novel, this was by far the worst. Slow, boring and the narration was awful.

The narrator ruined this for me!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Why should a seemingly good book (this was not a great book I'm afraid) be ruined by the narrator? In the past I have tried not to by books narrated by Dick Hill. From now on I will stay away from books narrated by Mr. Hill. Does the man have a Speech impediment? The words are pushed out when he reads. Very disappointing as well as it makes me wonder why Lee Child allows it. In my mind he ruins the story as well as the experience.

If you’ve listened to books by Lee Child before, how does this one compare?

The story of "Mothers rest" is also very light and it doesn't reach most of the Lee Child books I have listened to. Too bad, I have enjoyed Jack Reacher very much. After Make Me, this will probably be my last Reacher book. Maybe not forever, but really good reviews to come are required, in order to convince me otherwise.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Dick Hill?

Jeff Harding. A great narrator in my opinion!

Do you think Make Me needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Not sure. My suggestion would be to rethink/redefine Jack Reacher and write a more intriguing and challenging novel. In Make me, every move is highly predictable and the story to be frank is quite boring. I would recommend a more intellectual approach (such as Le Carre ) in order to grasp the listener, as well as having Jeff Harding as the narrator
