About this listen

I haven’t seen my husband for a year and a half before he shows up on my family’s ranch asking for an annulment.

From Marie Johnston comes a small town, second chance romance.

Archer’s a corporate guy with the condo in the city, the expensive car, and the snooty friends I was never good enough for. And I’m not the girl he thought I was—polished, refined, and classy. I’ve got dirt on my boots—and in my hair, dusting my face, and covering my old truck. Our marriage was never going to work. I should just sign the papers.

But I don’t. I ignore him like he’s done to me for the last 18 months.

Then one day, he rescues a calf from the mud, claims he’s a simple country boy at heart, and he wants to work things out. But it’s really hard to concentrate on what he’s saying when he’s undressed on my porch to keep from getting the house dirty.

True to his word, he doesn’t give up. Next thing I know, he’s cutting hay, getting to know his long lost relatives—the ones who are really surprised to find out I’m married and to a Barron. Did I mention I didn’t tell anyone I’d gotten married?

Well, the secret’s out, and my husband isn’t hiding. But in the end, the job he’s so proud of is across the country and I can’t leave my parents with a failing ranch and no help. I won’t trade my identity like I did last time, but the husband I’m finally getting to know might decide he’s a city guy after all.

Make Me Shiver is a standalone novel in the Oil Barrons series.

Hopes, dreams and family all come together

Loved it! These two have a lot of complications to overcome. They each can see something in the other that is hidden but needs to come out.

What I liked about this one is the male lead Archer. He really takes a gamble hoping it would pay off. While he did not have major changes he really improved overall. He proved to himself and others that he wasn't just some city slicker. He has skills and not only in the bedroom. His wife, Laney, was frustrated and saddened but also tired of living the lies. She has one goal..to be there for her family. She needs reminded that her husband is considered family too.

Overall I enjoyed this. The characters are gritty, snarky and these families are just…unusual and soooo interconnected. I always enjoy falling back into their world. I listened to this on audio. Jack Maverick and Avery Caris do a wonderful job narrating on this one.

Now he's back and wants an annulment. But does Asher really want one or is he being pushed into it by his so-called friends? he's always put his job 1st will his job come 1st again or will he stay and fix his marriage? I guess you have to read/ listen to the book. the narrators did an amazing job too 👏.

Unconventional romance

Avery Crais and Jack Maverick knocked it out the park with they narrating; they brought this story to life and made you feel like you were part of the story. The depth of characters, the unconventional romance, the complexity of their lives, the struggles, the laughter and the love were so beautifully written that I couldn’t stop listening!

Just as good in audio form.

I have enjoyed this series as a whole, and when I got the chance to listen to the adio book, I jumped. Avery Caris and Jack Maverick were everything I wanted and needed to bring Archer and Delaney's story to life. I love a marriage in crisis trope, but they are had to believe sometimes. Marie Johnston has a knack for writing realistic and compelling story that always brings out the best of this trop. These two narrators voices blend into these characters just right, and it was a delight to listen.

laney & archer deserve it all

4.5 stars!

a family emergency sent laney back home & after some time, her husband, archer, comes to find her for an annulment. while there however, they rediscovered & found their way back to each other! i loved archer’s POV because you can truly see how much he loved laney and fought for their marriage. this story was so cute & i’m grateful to have gotten a copy to review. i truly devoured their story in a day.

both avery caris & jack maverick were new narrators to me & they played the parts of laney & archer so well! i will definitely be keeping an eye out for more books done by them.

Second Chances

Archer and Delaney's story is about second chances. While at a dinner party with Archer's boss and mentor, Delaney receives devastating news from home. When she doesn't get the support she needs from Archer, she leaves and heads back home to North Dakota realizing his goal of becoming partner is more important than their marriage.

Eighteen months later, Archer heads to North Dakota to seek an annulment from Delaney. As they begin to spend some time together actually learning more about each other that wasn't brought up during their marriage, they realize they are still in love and neither wants the annulment.

Archer heads back to Dallas due to a very lucrative deal thinking if he closes this deal he'll make partner. Will he finally see what's really going on and get the HEA with Delaney or will his career sabotage their marriage.

Worth a listen

This book and narration was great! The story was quick and had a great mix of drama, love, spice, and happiness. I really enjoyed the characters and their stories. Second chance romance isn’t always my favorite trope but this was done well.

Second Chance at Marriage

This story follows Laney and Archer. They’re married but it has failed. Archer’s work was #1 priority and Laney didn’t feel true to herself and had to go back home due to her brother having a failed AS. Archer shows up to ask for an annulment but Laney doesn’t want to give it to him. Make him work for the signature or for her. Archer puts in the work. He helps her on her ranch and gets to know the real Laney.

Great listen!

This was a new to me author, and new to me narrators... but WOW! THIS will not be my last read or listen from any of them!

Avery Caris & Jack Maverick were amazing narrators and they brought the characters to life!

This second chance/marriage in crisis romance had a really great storyline; with secrets, family issues, and a working farm & big city storyline.

Author Marie Johnston wrote a great back story for Delaney and Archer as well as for the whole book in general. There is a bit of a "warning" if you want to call it that, but I don't feel it was necessary, but... if you listen to the warning and explanation at the beginning of the book, it is very well explained!

I would absolutely recommend this book!

Audio perfection

I absolutely love this story. These narrators easily brought the characters and the story to life. The way this relationship grows into a strong love beyond what most dream of having is what stories should all be made of
