Publisher's summary

The proud and arrogant duke of Everingham is determined to secure a marriage of convenience with heiress Lady Georgiana Rutherford. He's the biggest prize on the London marriage mart, pursued by young unmarried ladies and their matchmaking mamas, as well as married women with a wandering eye. He can have any woman he wants. Or so he thinks....

Lady Georgiana Rutherford - irreverent and unconventional - has no plans to marry. Having grown up poor, Lady George has no intention of giving up her fortune to become dependent on the dubious and unreliable goodwill of a man. Especially a man as insufferable as the duke of Everingham, whose kisses stirs unwelcome and unsettling emotions....

The more she defies him, the more the duke wants her, until an argument at a ball spirals into a passionate embrace. Caught in a compromising position, the duke announces their betrothal. George is furious, and when gossip claims she deliberately entrapped the duke - when she was the one who was trapped - she marches down the aisle in a scarlet wedding dress. But the unlikely bride and groom may have found love in the most improbable of places - a marriage of convenience.

Contains mature themes.

This Story Will Make You Smile

I was a little unsure of the direction the story was going after that spectacular dress George wore for her wedding with Everingham. There had to be a conflict so enter the ward, a look a like, a potential kidnapping, fear of a drowning in the lake...Now the real conflict when the duke plans to go back to London If only they would say how they feel.LOVE.

independence is hard to keep

I must give hearty applause to the narrator. She did a wonderful job with all the characters and the occasional sound effects. The story was well put together, especially George's struggle to maintain her independence.

Love it but predictable

Hey there, I liked this story but it was pretty much like the others. Much prefer this narrator over the reader from the first in this series. I LOVE the Merridew series and LIKE this series- mostly bc they feel the same. That's kinda a no brainer bc they are all about Marriages of Convenience. I will relisten but it's not a top 20 fave.

Perfect narration

The story moved along smoothly not too much angst . Right amount of everything and I loved how aunt story had a moment and got mentioned in the happily ever after. Great book!

Loved the story!

I really enjoyed this book. Kept my interest the entire way with surprising twists and turns. George was an admirable character who most women would love to emulate. The Duke was also wonderful especially learning who he really was in his heart and not someone everyone saw him as. I highly recommend this romance story. The narrator was also excellent and convincing as the many characters she played out were all unique and easily pictured in my mind.

Fun read

I was excited to read George’s story. It was modeled quite a bit on pride and prejudice but no complaints here. I really enjoyed it. Was worth a credit to me. Last one in series so a little sad to get to the end too. Cool, cold hero and wild wonderful heroine. His conversion was a little quick near the end but it was all great fun.

A little long in some sections but overall an enjoyable story. I really liked the narration; the characters were easily distinguishable.
