About this listen

From the leading authority on workplace incivility, Christine Porath, shows why it pays to be civil, and reveals just how to enhance effectiveness in the workplace and beyond by mastering civility.

Incivility is silently chipping away at people, organizations, and our economy. Slights, insensitivities, and rude behaviors can cut deeply and hijack focus. Even if people want to perform well, they can't. Ultimately incivility cuts the bottom line.

In Mastering Civility, Christine Porath shows how people can enhance their influence and effectiveness with civility. Combining scientific research with fascinating evidence from popular culture and fields such as neuroscience, medicine, and psychology, this audiobook provides managers and employers with a much-needed wake-up call, while also reminding them of what they can do right now to improve the quality of their workplaces.

I look forward to the exercises. This is by far one of the most challenging issues of our time.

So many suggestions can often be overwhelming. This is alright though because the author states to just do some of them. This is a great book!

Great book! LOTS of suggestions

Voice narrator is pretty good. I think it's best to read in a book to remind yourself when times get rough at work. Audiobook is good too for a first time listen.

I can't say that I loved it or that I hated it. It delivered some solid information but, nothing stood out as especially insightful or new.

It was pretty good and I learned some new things.

This book I inspired me. Few know how operating room staff treat each other. We are focused on the patient at every moment but treat one another with incivility routinely, and at all levels. There is a mindset of secrecy and fear to speak up. There isn't supposed to be, but there is. Few leaders are equipped to change this culture that has been shown to undermine the safety of our patients. I hope to share this book with every Surgical Services Leader I know in the Columbus OH area. Next time you require surgery, insist on your OR staff being kind and civil to one another. This insistence from every patient will make them stop and think about how they can truly create the safest surgical environment for you while you are under anesthesia. We are all skilled at surgery, but we lack skills and leadership to eradicate disruptive behaviors that undermine the culture of safety. I have thought about leaving my profession that I love but I hung on every word of this book and have a renewed sense of hope. Be well.

If you are interested in a book that is heavily researched, this is your book! It was common sense advice and great research.

Lots of research
