Can the big bad biker really protect me and my daughter?
On the run with my baby daughter, I never expected to end up surrounded by massive bikers. I’ve seen the violence that gangs can do, and I’m not sure a motorcycle club is any different. But Maverick might be able to change my mind about Hell’s Ankhor. When I show up on his doorstep with a busted car and a baby in my arms, he doesn’t hesitate to take us in. And from the moment I see him, I know I want more.
It’s crazy to even think it. My violent ex is coming for me, and I can’t put anyone else in danger. But even more important is protecting baby Grace. And Maverick and his club are just the men to help. I think I’ve finally found my match in this gigantic biker’s arms. Can I trust that this time the story will end in a happily-ever-after? Or will my past crash into our lives and ruin the family we could have together?

'Maverick' is the fourth book of the series and the second that I've listened to. I didn't have any trouble following the MC events that came prior to this installment; it stands alone well.
Maverick, owner of a combined auto and bike repair and customization shop, takes in Jonah and his infant daughter Grace, who are running from an abusive ex-husband, to give them a safe place to stay. The men have an instant attraction and soon fall in love. Problems arise when Jonah's ex doesn't let him go so easily.
Maverick is big, burly and intimidating on the outside and squishy, gooey on the inside as evidences by how quickly he takes to baby Grace. Who exactly did he fall in love with first? It could be argued that Grace steals his heart before Jonah does. The whole club thinks Grace is the bee's knees, making it easier for Jonah to dispel his misconceptions about Hell's Ankhor being a violent gang. He slowly begins accepting the help being offered by the club.
Authors Aiden Bates and Ali Lyda deliver to readers a well-written romance with: a little slow-burn, opposites attract, a cutie-pie babbling baby, a little suspense, misunderstandings and the feel-good happily ever after. The plot is believable. The characters are relatable. It's an all-around satisfying listen.
Narrator Tomas Hart does a good job interpreting this story. The authors' words were brought to life.
Recommended.

This book so highlights the strength of patience and giving someone space to heal and learn to trust themselves again as Maverick demonstrates. Jonah really illustrates the process of healing and learning to view the world from a non-defensive viewpoint. His early reactions are so normal and painful to watch as he reacts in fear to even the simplest kindness. I loved how he grew and learned to interact with the club and gave himself permission to try a relationship with Maverick. I also appreciated that growth is not a linear process and Jonah's reactions didn't always move him toward safety. It was a learning process. Priest had a beautiful role to play in this heartfelt story.
Jonah and Maverick are steamy, intense, beautiful and together create a wonderful family for Gracie. The extended family that the club provides is so much fun and will warm your heart.
This is book four of the Hell's Ankhor series and this book can be read as a stand-alone. I do recommend that you read the other stories and this book would be even better if you had read them first, but it will stand by itself.

So as far as MC stories go, this one is not as dark, gritty and violent as you’d expect. It’s a well written story, with complex characters, and a really sweet romance. There’s something about big tough biker guys and a tiny sweet baby girl that is just beyond adorable; I really liked that perspective of the MC club and Maverick. I also appreciated that the threat in this book is external and is tied to Jonah, not the MC club or it’s members. After three heavy books, this was a good shift.
In terms of narration, Thomas Hart does a really good job. He is the same narrator from Gunnar, Book 2, although I think he did a little better job there than here. Book 3 is a different narrator; that could be good or bad depending on how you look at it. I liked that there was a narrator switch between books because it infuses some distinction into the characters. However, the voices within the book - Mr. Hart’s voicing of different characters in this book - were not that different, so that’s the one area where I’d say improvement is needed. Otherwise, his voice fits with the tenor of the book and the series because it has a richness and depth to it that is the appropriate counterpoint to the characters and the story. His diction is excellent and he is able to impart the right emotion behind the words. The pacing was great, although the speed is a bit faster than in Book 3, but it seemed just right to me and you can always adjust that in the playback anyway. Overall, I recommend this book and the series, and the audio definitely enriches the experience.
Another great story in an accessible MC series
