About this listen

Thousands of years ago Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius wrote these meditations as a guide for his own self-improvement, and they're still relevant today.

Bedtime stories are narrated by the world’s most celebrated voices and written with no beginning, middle, or end so you don’t stay up to hear what happens next. They're interesting enough to give your mind something to focus on, but delivered in a way that encourages sleep.

Of course, that was the whole point, so it did its job. The narrator does a really good job. Not to much inflection, but not to monotone or robotic either. Perfect for falling asleep.

It put me to sleep.

This is a story not a meditation. Good story, but not a meditation. It was relaxing.

I was lucky to get that bedtime story for free and was surprised how much I love it. It is only Book one (with invisible transition to the beginning of Book 2) , it is not abridged and it is one of the good translations.
For me it is a triple success- the choice of the book, (the part of that book), the choice of the voice behind and the personal choice of the narrator per se how to read that part. The beautiful rich velvet voice, keeping special monotony so you calm down, the voice rhythm, staying invisible so you can follow the Marcus Aurelius' quill/train-of thoughts as he puts them down to eternity, and also -the part of the book, his acknowledgments ,(which is the most colorless and neat part of Meditations) - all Is perfect for bedtime travel to sleep. I've been listening myself to sleep for many years, I understand the timbre needed to calm you down. I think Prentice Onayemi's voice is brilliant here! I would like to hear the whole book read at that ambiance.

Grateful for the gift

Excellent listen, the pacing can cause a lull (reflexive mood) to some ideas that are otherwise cognitive in nature (cognitive ideas are generally harder to comprehend while being in a reflexive mood). The narrator did a great job providing the written work a living voice.

Excellent listen. Reflective
