About this listen

Three years after Courtney McAllister loses her partner in a car accident, she's finally trying to move forward. She's even dated half-heartedly over the past year, but no one is able to penetrate her emotional barricades until she meets aggressive real estate broker Rachel Hart.

Despite Rachel's cool facade, Courtney is drawn to her - when she isn't furious with her. Still, despite an undeniable attraction, Courtney has given her heart once and doesn't have room for that kind of love in her life again. Rachel isn't looking for love, especially not with a woman who belongs to someone else, and taking second place has never been her strong suit.

Mixed Opinion

I had a hard time enjoying this book due to the narration... The constant swallowing sounds and the overall lack of feeling behind it left me wishing I had read the book myself. I would recommend not getting the audio version and perhaps it will be a more enjoyable story.

Another Love

This is my second Georgia Beers and I loved it as well. I enjoyed the story of loss and new romance.

I hope Georgia reads this, I would love for her to revisit this relationship between Rachel and Courtney and add some drama with Courtney's neighbor that was hitting on her and watching her from his house. Could be the makings of a stalking/kidnapping/murder mystery that could start as Courtney and Rachel marry... I don't know, just spitballing here.

Regardless Mine was a wonderful listen, I have a couple more Beers books in the library ready to go.

Good story

Having lost my wife less than 2 years ago, I related to the emotions and thoughts in this book. It was still light enough that I was able to enjoy it.

Good story

Themes of loss and healing.
A few problems with the recording. Someone in production should have a listen and re-edit to fix them.
Otherwise good narration. Comfortable listen. Easy to fall into the world of the story.

Listen before reading the reviews

This book is well worth the read. Losing a loved one who happens to be your life partner is never easy, whether expected or not. The emotions are raw, volatile and incredibly mixed all the time and change at a drop of the hat. Does it make a person self-centred, selfish and less lovable later - I don't think so. I think with the right person, who understands grief is a living monster and there is no single way to move through the loss, the guilt, doubt, memories; that the demons can be slowly silenced opening up a way forward. I think Georgia Beers has captured this emotion and part of the process well in this book. This book is not a fluffy rom-com, but one for giving pause to think - what would you do differently if it was you? And perhaps be that bit kinder to the people around you who are fighting unseen battles.

Almost Great

This is a very well written book, with almost all characters being both memorable and likable. It is unfortunate that the exception for most of the book was the second lead character Rachel Hart who up until the end of the book seems to be too much of a pain to put up with no matter how hot she might be. Her contempt for her father and total indifference to the death of his wife of 25 years paint her as a cold, bitter, heartless automaton. In the end she reveals more of what you can only hope is her true character. The grief group that Courtney begins attending has a couple of characters who do a good job of moving the story forward. Lisa helps bring Courtney forward and contributes to her recovery and Ted who isn't utilized as much as he could be, although the reason he isn't; isn't difficult to understand by the end of the story. Courtney's brother-in-law Marky (Mark) Manneti is another really good character and the connection he and Courtney share is sweet, though perhaps a bit too shallow. I had no problem giving this one 5 stars.

Moving Romance

Courtney was recovering from her partner’s death nearly three years ago. Now she’s ready to sale her house and attempt to move on. Rachel is a realtor with a no nonsense take charge attitude. After an initial conflict the move on to test the attraction between them. Tw wounded women find healing and love with each other. Erotic romance. Great performance. Recommend

Not a light listen

Good, well written story. Definitely not light material. Would have been better with a different narrator. I didn’t enjoy listening to her swallow and I don’t think her tone fit the words she was reading or the actions being depicted. Her voice was pleasant enough, but the emotion wasn’t there.
