About this listen

Cherry Davis is turning her part-time influencer gig into a full-time venture. As Cherry on Top, she’s the happy, loved lesbian lifestyle guide with an enviable relationship, friends, and wardrobe. Reputation is crucial for her business, and if she uses some smoke and mirrors to spice it up? She doesn’t hurt anybody. Everyone else does it, too. Trolls might try to tell her she isn’t being authentic, but she’s tougher than they are. Her childhood gave her a thick skin.

Ellis Conrad dreams of becoming a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist. You know what she doesn’t dream of? Debunking politicians, local celebrities, and online influencers for the less-than-reputable site, 11th Commandment. But the truth is important, especially to Ellis, and besides, she really needs the money.

A chance meeting leaves Cherry and Ellis reeling from the unexpected intensity, and they both start to long for a different life, perhaps even one that includes each other. But when Ellis’ search for truth crashes into Cherry’s insta-filter world, do they have any hope at all of a happily ever after?

Fluffy Title

At first, I wasn’t sure this was going to be a book I wanted to read since I’m not a big follower of internet stuff and the title just seemed to be a little fluffy for my taste. However, I’m a fan of Beers and the reviews sounded good and I’m so glad I didn’t pass this story up. Nice moral to the story, performance excellent, sad when the story ended, I wanted more!

Ohh sigh 🫶🏽

It not only talks about a real issue in our society, something that consumes us without stopping, but it does it with sweetness, and with the voice of Lula Larkin it is an extremely pleasant dose. The real cherry on top

Not bad, but not my favorite

When I was four, I was 100% aware that my favorite TV character, a certain big purple dinosaur, was not real.
I lump social media influencers in with characters on shows and movies, they are actors, playing a part for entertainment purposes. I honestly don't get the big deal about them having parts of their lives they keep private or represent different from reality.
They don't owe the world every honest aspect of themselves. They are actors. Anyone over the age of 14 who doesn't realize that has personal issues they should probably work with a therapist or specialist on.
So it was hard for me to really care about the whole deception and #nofilter thing.
Also how was there no accountability for that super invasive an unethical article Ellis writes and publishes? Like...wow, so much more messed up than having a fake online gf, which hurts literally zero people.
Also, we didn't get enough back story on our main characters early enough, so it took me until halfway through to be invested. It was just like, three hours of listening to the main characters gush about their new crush and act like the phenomenon of having said crush was somehow revolutionary. Like, being shocked when they'd think about their crush in the context of the future as if that was somehow unheard of. As if people don't literally always do that with new crushes.
"Why am I even thinking this?!?!?!"
.... because you like her. Duh.

It wasn't a bad story, it was technically sound, I just didn't get that into it.
Personal preference maybe?

Lula Larkin is quickly becoming one of my favourit

I reviewed this book on my blog a few months ago so this review will focus on the narration. And it will be short: I loved it. Lula Larkin is quickly becoming one of my favourite narrators, which is a good thing as she’s narrating a lot of Bold Strokes books these days. The voices she gives the characters have substance and nuance and they fit perfectly. I think she made me like Cherry sooner than I did when I first read the story.

In my original review, I wrote that Georgia Beers’ first kiss scenes are some of the best of the best and trust me, you’re going to want to hear this one. 4.5⭐️

Amazing!

love Beers and was a little leery of this book due to the storyline. The reviews convinced me. I was captured by chapter 2.

This will go down as one of my favs.

Real people with Real problems that have Real solutions. A truly great story to experience.

Not as good as Georgia Beers other books

Had to force myself to get through it. Felt no connection to either character. Felt more connected to Lila.
