Mingo McCloud, Honolulu’s hottest - well, only - forensic accountant, has an amazing career working on the Hawaiian Islands’ high-profile criminal cases. Too bad, he can’t finesse his private life with the same panache.
His chronic attraction to bad guys comes to a skidding halt, when he meets Francois Aumary, a former green beret, and man of many secrets. Currently working for the governor’s office, Francois’s past life includes a pre-teen son, Ferric, who, like his father, becomes a major part of Mingo’s life.
Meanwhile, as Mingo handles missing and murdered people’s cases, his life takes bizarre turns. From a woman from his past claiming they were once married, there’s his mother, whose taste in men is worse than Mingo’s. Her new beau thinks he’s the lost king of Hawaii, and will stop at nothing to reclaim his throne. There’s also her mania for avocado green kitchen gadgets, and her garish, animal-print outfits.
Then, there’s the attorney Mingo works for: Benny Leonard, Korean by birth, and now a devout, Orthodox Jew. Thanks to his adoptive parents, Benny is plain nuts.
Weaving in and out of his and Mingo’s lives is a man who may just be the worst thing on two legs. Kaolin Grace does terrible things to both of them, even giving Mingo and Francois a felonious gift on their wedding day.
But that’s not all. Ferric is anxious for his two dads to get hitched, and worried that things like a haunted bridge, crazy criminal cases, and his mom wanting custody of him again might put a damper on things. As for Mingo, he’ll do whatever it takes to have a happy life, and a future without yucky green accessories.

By the end of book 2 I found myself FF through the sex scenes and didn't notice missing any important information concerning anything else.
Overall all these characters are fun together and you I could find myself really liking the antics they get up too. Except of course all the above mentioned Sex.
Because of that, these will the last I bother with
John Solo did a fantastic job, and if it wasn't for him, I probably wouldn't have finished them.
S*x with some story thrown in

There is sex outside the couple but not cheating (except book 1 has cheating but not with the MCs). I would listen to next books if in a bundle since they are pretty short (especially at 2x speed which is how I listen). John Solo isn't my favorite narrator but he does a good job on these!
*I received a free audiobook to review this but it did not influence my opinion

Mingo and Francois

Mingo is very likeable and I kept rooting for him and I frequently wished that the people around him treated him better. The fact that he's a forensic accountant felt fresh and interesting, a different take om the detective genre.
I'm looking forward to more audiobooks in this series as I'm planning on listening to them.
John Solo's narration is, as always, excellent.
Lots of twists and turns

Mingo's Escapades!

What I don't get is that Mingo is recovering from a bad relationship, one that really hurt him, and yet, when he meets Jason, he falls head-over-heals for him within days. Let's not forget to mention that Mingo, the Forensic Accountant, went home with this guy in the morning for sex and then proceeds to keep seeing him even though Jason is both weary about the sex (which there is a lot of, and while that in-and-of-itself isn't a bad thing, it is in this case) and yet can't stand to be away from Mingo. Not suspicious or anything.
Then there is that plot, which is meh and very anti-climatic. There is just a lot of things that didn't sit right for me in this book.
Not Entirely Sure What I Just Listened To

🎧📚🎧 And for the amazing narration, John Solo is a fabulously talented narrator and a versatile voice artist. He had a complete understanding of the characters he portrayed, gave each a voice that was a perfect fit for that character’s persona, sounding believable in every role he played and just as I pictured the characters to sound. His character voices were spot on for every character and he was consistent with them though out the series. He set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and projected them into his performance. John Solo is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to, his narration enhances the story to another level. Thank you for another exceptional listen.
