About this listen

Coke and Pepsi McDonald didn’t want to jump off a cliff. They didn't want to get hit by poisoned darts from blowguns either. And they certainly don't want to get locked in their burning school, thrown into a pit at the top of a sand dune, or drowned in a vat of liquefied Spam. But what are you supposed to do when you’re being chased across the country by your insane health teacher and two guys in bowler hats who are trying to kill you? One thing's for sure, it'll be a snap for Coke and Pep to write their essays on "How I Spent My Summer Vacation."

Want to join in the fun? Fire up the old Google Maps and follow the McDonald twins as they get chased from the Pez museum to the largest ball of twine in the world. And watch out for the Frisbee grenades!

I think that it is good but but the narration is a bit odd and the narrator goes on these long talks about stuff and it is long

Great introduction to the series. My 11yo and I love a good book while in the car. It also makes us want to rent an RV and drive across the country.

Loved it!

Coke and Pepsi are twelve-almost-thirteen year old twins who are not names after the sodas. Well, Coke isn't, anyway. He's named Coke after the byproduct from coal. Pepsi, on the other hand, was the surprise baby girl who was born and when a nurse suggested the name of Pepsi as a joke, their parents didn't have any better ideas, so she was stuck with it.

Coke and Pep have been recruited - and automatically accepted - into a group for genius kids that they had no idea about. But they keep getting secret messages to decode from someone who has nefarious plans. While they are on a cross-country trip in a rented RV - with their parents; don't worry, they aren't driving. Much. Anyway, they're on a cross-country trip to go to DC for a family visit, and their mother keeps diverting them to see some of the wackier museums across the country.

This was such a fun book to listen to. It was full of little tidbits about some of the fun and wacky places in the United States. At each museum, the twins manage to get up to some fun antics and not-so-fun-but-certainly-dangerous antics as they get closer and closer to the bad guy, to finding out not only who has been leaving all of the coded messages but who has also been trying to kill them. The book is written in the narrative voice of Coke and Pepsi, both of whom are written incredibly well.

If you still need a reason to read this book, it starts off on the first page with our twin protagonists jumping off of a cliff. Yes, you read that correctly. They jumped off a cliff, and no, it wasn't planned. The rest of chapter 1 goes through explaining their history - and how they got their names, sorry about that spoiler - so, you won't get the setup for why they jumped off the cliff until Chapter 2. But that's just another reason to read the book.

If you're more of a listener than a reader, the audiobook is narrated by Michael Goldstrom, who gave a fabulous performance. He was incredibly fun to listen to, and I am looking forward to listening to him narrate the next book in the series.
