About this listen

The monster-girl-filled action and magical battle adventure through the fantastical world of Mistrim continues!

Self-proclaimed conqueror Auroro and his contracted guide, Rynissie, have hit the road. They have had a simple errand (read: most important task) entrusted to them and are heading to the cave-elf city of Cerulean-in-the-Mountain.... Or at least that was the plan. Auroro has decided to be efficient.

They're going to do some jobs along the way and make some money! Sounds simple enough, right? Unfortunately, things are not normal in the forests of Viridia. Reports of strange monsters, disturbed ambient mana, and travelers getting lost in the woods overnight point Rynissie to a certain conclusion.

Rynissie suspects Underland, a plane of existence within Mistrim where games and rhymes come to life, is leaking its weirdness into the forest. For Rynissie, it's just another decade in the forest, but as Auroro is about to find out, things are never easy when Underland is involved.... At least it will be one heck of a time.

Good story; frustrating dynamics.

Although the more intimate moments shared between the MC, Auroro, and his conquests are surrounded by his journey to understand his powers, I do wish they were a little less Mystical, and more blunt at times.. His companion, Rynissie also put the entire team at risk in this volume heavily in part to her unyielding personality (battle strategy aside). Auroro and Cheshire were nearly brought to their deaths, because she refused to let her guard down around Auroro and share a room. Cheshire’s friend, DeeDee, paid the price for this oversight in the long term. Although I’m confident the MC, and Cheshire won’t ACTUALLY meet their demise before Rynissie buckles and let’s Auroro in, outside of high pressure situations, it’s still a frustrating dynamic. I would have laid it on pretty thick to her about being such a selfish partner, when Auroro could clearly tell something was off with Cheshire when arriving in town, and wanted to share a room (indulgences aside; he should have followed his instincts).

more monster girl goodness

Erin Bateman and Andrew did a great job with the narration. i mostly heard Erin solo and while her male voices are somewhat less polished her female coices are great.

A monster girl-filled action adventure!

Sebastian Guzman continues the monster girl-filled action and magical battle adventure through the fantastical world of Mistrim! The journey is fun to watch unfold, the MC and supporting characters all play off each other as intended, whether in a good or bad way, and the monster girls are more than just a fun toy. The overall story is well written and I cannot wait to read and listen to book 3 in the series! Audio Version: Andrew Pond and Erin Bateman do an excellent job with the narration and overall performance of each unique character.

Yeah, I'm going to recommend this series.

When it comes to reviewing a sequel, I am looking for everything that made the first book worth reading and then some. I'm actually going to share below this update my review on the first book to compare and contrast how I felt at the ending of that one versus this one. In short it was quality work and a fantastic performance by the narrator. There has been a marked improvement in my opinion, and I'm interested in seeing where the story goes from here. Lastly, I always make an effort to thank everybody who had a hand in bringing the audio book to us, the audio listeners.

Book 1 Review

A little context for my review. I tend to take it easy on the first and last book of any series as not every series makes it to “The End” and the first of anything can be a shaky endeavor, to say the least. I also try to make clear the distinction between the quality of the writing/performance of the author/narrator and my personal tastes should they differ. This is the first book that I have gotten for Sebastian Guzman and the first time that I've listened to a performance by Andrew Pond. This story is performed by a single narrator. The narration in my opinion was top notch. At the time of this review the narrator appears to have approximately 39 other audiobooks up on audible. As for the writing I believe that it was solid all around and when you take that into account for the first of a new series that's fairly impressive in and of itself. This is the first audiobook for this author, and it appears to have been the first book the author ever put up on Amazon. This series has five entries thus far and the author has the first book of two additional series’ available up on Amazon. In other words, he appears to be a relatively new author in the beginning of his career. The story begins with our hero, if you can call him that, awakening in front of a goddess who makes a deal with him where he has to go down and collect a bunch of women in order to win his way back to her and take her for his own. In the beginning of the story, it appears as though our hero may have misinterpreted the deal, but due to the fact that he's got a countdown to his death which was only minutes away upon entering the new world it is arguably understandable why he wouldn't be so focused on the details for which I will remind everybody that the devil is in the details. Now for me personally the opener was something that I'm personally not a fan of. So much so that it definitely puts me on the fence as to whether or not I would want to continue the series. To be clear this is a matter of personal tastes and has nothing to do with the quality of the writing. As the book progresses it does get better in my opinion. Lastly, I'm just going to say thank you to everybody who had a hand in bringing this book to us the audible listeners.
