About this listen

It was just a dare.

Connor Huntsson finally brought a woman home. Two of them.

But the Seeress needs to marry—and she needs a new weapon.

Getting into trouble was a given, but getting into a fight with a god comes with consequences.

Backed by blood and beauty, Connor still seeks the power waiting in the frost.

But to do that, he must first trust a friend with his heart.

This is going to be another long review and I don’t even know where to start.

What an experience! I binged both books and WOW. This took everything from the first one and made it legendary. The passion is off the charts with more heart than I can fit in my chest, the characters are top notch, and the fight choreography is amazing! I’ll be smiling for days! And I can’t believe I’m saying this but the narration got even better!

First I HAVE to talk about the voice acting. There’s actual SINGING and she has a wonderful voice! I’m SO glad the same narrators did the sequel cause they’re they’re clearly masters of their craft when given the right material. On Byron’s side you can hear the tinge of Irish in Uldric’s voice, the educated woodsman in Connor, and the warrior sage in his father. Nobody sounds the same, and our hero sounds like a man who is gentle by nature but can mess you up if he wants to.

And Kat? WOW. Her accents are even BETTER than the first book! Griselda is in top form, the Seeress sounds classy and poised, and Revna’s whispers are haunting at times. She completely melted into the role and became these characters and I’ve never heard such convincing accents in my life!

And speaking of accents, the language spoken by Griselda gets even more fleshed out. We actually get TAUGHT how to speak it little by little without realizing we’re learning it! There’s this really cool scene where Connor is getting frustrated with the language barrier, but the tongue is so intuitive and flows so well that I figured out what she was saying at the same time he said it out loud!

I really like how Drokan sounds. One of the songs is sung in it and it sounds so natural and flowy that you wouldn’t know the author made it up! Griselda’s outbursts and the witch’s lessons come across so naturally its never overstays its welcome. The author is clearly gunning for Tolkien and it shows except all the sounds come from the runes we learned about in the first book. This sequel really builds on the first one in a big way, especially the ROMANCE.

And we need to talk about the relationships. OH MY GAWD! I’m going to try really hard not to spoil anything, but the arc between Connor and Revna is so wholesome and hot that I’m mad it hasn’t been done before. Bless Connor’s heart, he tries so hard to make all the women happy but doesn’t understand feminine psychology until his parents teach him a thing or two. It’s so thoughtful and realistically done I caught myself gushing when we find out what’s REALLY bothering each lover, which makes total sense! These are strangers forming a new family, and it takes a bit of a shakedown before they find their feet. A lot of insight went into this. It feels like the author has some real experience and it pays off in the storytelling.

Speaking of Connor’s parents, they’re so awesome! Even his mom gets a cool arc that helps the plot along! Everything is so vivid and the world feels so lived in, you just HAVE to pick up this book. Gems like this are one in a million and I really hope this series continues or gets a TV adaptation or something. This is excellent work and scratched an itch I didn’t know I was having. It set such a high bar that calling it a harem book would be selling it short.

This made me very happy and I love it. Bravo. More please!

Why isn’t this an HBO show? This is HOT!!!
