About this listen

In this prequel to the apocalyptic horror series, an overnight gig turns into a nightmare when zombies start coming for blood.

After a long day on the job, house painter Gus Berry is looking forward to relaxing and spending some time with his girlfriend before returning to work the next day. But none of that is going to happen.

Gus’s coworker Benny has found them a painting gig at the local Mollymart East, and it has to be done by morning. If Gus and his crew can complete the work on time, it could mean huge business with a major grocery store chain.

But as Gus and his fellow painters are about to discover, the much-anticipated zombie apocalypse doesn’t start with a bang; it starts on a Monday. And barricading themselves inside a megastore isn’t the end—it’s only the beginning . . .

Gus Berry begingings expertly told by RC Bray

Man, Keith C Blackmore did not disappoint with the prequel for the Mountain Man book series. RC Bray who is my absolute favorite narrator made Gus Berry come alive again. The Book has some laughs, chills, and terror all wrapped in one neat package. I would listen to the store while going on my early morning walks and more than once would look over my shoulder thinking a zombie was coming out between a house to come eat me.
Well Done Keith C. Blackmore and RC Bray! Bravo...Wish we could keep the Gus Berry stories going, but only if RC Bray keeps narrating the stories.

Pre-Mountain Man Gus

Bottom line, if you like the Mountain Man series you will like this book.

You get the pre-story we fans have always wanted of how Gus goes from overweight painter to hard-bitten survivor. Keith Blackmore does a great job tying the originals back into this prequel and he's thankfully not sloppy about it. After listening to this one, I restarted the series and it was every bit as satisfying with round number 5 or 6.

I think I'd almost be interested to hear how someone would process the whole arc with this as a starting point rather than a flash back.

And, of course, you can't go wrong with RC Bray. He nails it once again, bringing a softer, gentler and scared-er Gus to us. Although this is probably the end of the line with this story, fans can always hope and against hope that Blackmore will be back with more Gus in the future.

Good Story

Be ready for lots of GORE! The narration was excellent! Characters were interesting. Only letdown was when it ended! I got so into it, I forgot it was a “prequel” so was surprised when it ended.

zombies?

normally I wouldn't go to a zombie apocalypse for entertainment but this is a well developed character following romp thru the mall to mountain trip of someone who wouldn't have expected this either. Good appetizer, now I'm off tho the main course.

Great zombie story, but a bit vulgar in parts.

If you can get past the forced vulgarity (over the top male humor) the actual story once the undead arrives is great. I went ahead an bought the rest of the series once I was done with this.

my type of story

I have been hunting down RC Bray narrated books since my first encounter with the Wild Inside. This does not disappoint! love the vulgarity of the author and can't wait to listen to the remainder of the series!
