About this listen

Seven train robbers. One haunted locomotive. All aboard for terror.

In the spring of 1903, locomotive 311, known as the Majestic, carried more than one hundred passengers toward a tunnel through the underbelly of the Canadian Rockies. But then the mouth of the tunnel swallowed the 311 whole, and the train—and everyone on it—was never seen again. Seven years later, a gang of cattle thieves and cutthroats wait on horseback for a train car full of railway cash—a payroll they intend to steal. What they will discover, however, is that the approaching train isn’t the 5409. It’s the missing 311, a train only whispered about around dying campfires. A train that some believe still rides the iron rails, traveling to places no mortal should ever go, seeing things no one should ever see.

Acclaimed horror writer Keith C. Blackmore etches an unsettling new entry in the annals of the American West. And like the haunted train itself, this one never stops.

I know what I was expecting when I began listening to The Majestic 311, heck I’ve listened to all of Keith C. Blackmore’s Mountain Man series, and I’ve listened to R. C. Bray narrate not just the Mountain Man series, but several sci-fi series from other authors, so I was expecting a western that had a supernatural component. Not only did I get the western/supernatural part, then there was the horror element, and oh so much more. I found myself fully engaged trying to figure out what the seven train robbers had gotten themselves into, and each time I started to feel like I had a handle on the story it shifted, sometimes in very subtle ways and sometimes in ways that were anything but subtle. And, then came that ending, and what an ending it is – I’m still pondering it now three days after listening to the story. I would have to say any story that keeps your attention even after its over is one heck of a story.

If you are looking for some awesome entertainment, I highly recommend listening to R.C. Bray’s expert narration of Keith C. Blackmore’s The Majestic 311. With so many elements to this story you can’t help but be entertained.

Not what I was expecting, but so much more!!!!

The first 75%was good then it just got bizarre. Started as a mystery western style book, then kind of became Sci fi.

Just got out of control

I can see why some may not have liked this book. RC Bray was good but not his best in my opinion, had a hard time making out individual characters. Definitely Wild and interesting as a story, never know what’s next.

Alice+Western= This Book

Started out really interesting…. Parts if it were good, parts of it dragged. Did not like the ending. Can’t say I would recommend it.

Not the best

RC Bray was awesome as usual but the story was not disjointed and hard to follow. Every time I thought I was getting a handle on the story something would happen that just didn't flow. The ending made no sense.

Not fulfilling

i find the concept of this story incredibly compelling, and the actual story is engrossing. Blackmore has a knack for everyman type stories that aren't everyday. love this book!

great premise, great execution

it's a completely unhinged fever dream that feels like a ttrpg campaign with no end in mind. it meanders through coolish moments but the justification feels slapped together. RC Bray is great as always. that was... something

great performance - weird story

True grit characters. Performance was great. Simply put. I haven’t listen to a book that has kept me from turning in the tv.

Dude,,,that ending sucked!!

You had me the whole way.

There is no sugar and spice nor everything nice about this story. It profane and as egregious as any fantasy or nightmare a man can think of can be. I liked the western vibe. It not a horror story in the true sense of the word but it is sprinkled with men’s fantasies and nightmares. Yes, I just repeated myself. If you are looking for hope, this book isn’t it.
