About this listen

In Creekstone, Texas, a small, quiet suburb of Houston, football was king and David Temple was a prince. A former high school and college gridiron-star-turned-coach, he had a fairy-tale marriage to bright, vivacious Belinda Lucas, a teacher at the local high school who was so warm and popular her colleagues called her "The Sunshine Girl".

The fairy tale ended savagely on January 11, 1999, when Belinda's lifeless body was discovered in a closet. Her skull had been shattered by a shotgun blast at close range. She was eight months pregnant.

There was no damning evidence directly linking the brutal murder to husband David, who stood by emotionless and dry-eyed as police searched the crime scene. But a dogged eight-year investigation would expose a shocking history of cruelty and domination, infidelity and rage - ultimately resulting in an epic courtroom battle for the ages - as the scandalous truth was revealed about love betrayed and innocent lives shattered.

Belinda and Brenda were colleagues in the show cattle and FFA circle from high school, and we attended SFASU at the same time. I remember David from his glory football days at SFA (he always had that jerk vibe about him). I have known what happened to Belinda, but until this book, I had no idea the details or how horrible it really was. Two precious lives were taken that day, and David is right where he belongs. Thank you, Kathryn Casey, for writing such a detailed and compelling account of this East Texas tragedy.

Devastating

I know audiobooks aren't easy to record. There were some chapters that sounded robotic vocally.

vocals are robotic at times

This was compelling, so sad and impossible to forget. I think the fairness in the presentation was remarkable all things considered.

This is the first book I've read by this author. Being an Anne Rule fan I now have a replacement. The backstory leading up to the crime kept you interested all the way through.
I admit usually I never am as interested in the court part of the book. But already a fan of Kelly Sigler before "Cold Justice" I really could not stop listening. Yes the prosecutor who never lost a case even when it had a retrial on appeal.
The narrator was great too. I enjoy when they change voices for different characters or at least for sex and age. I also had to listen at the regular speed. This wasn't a slow narration that I had to listen at 150% to 175%. over all I really recommend this for true crime fans, and Anne Rule fans. Oh and start off at 100% speed so you don't get a chipmunk reading like I did. 😂

A can't stop listening/reading book

I thought this was well written with a lot of good facts, I see the story does go on from where the author left off. It just blows my mind what people do and think people won't see how they really are. This is one bowed man who has gotten away with a lot. From what I can see the man is still in jail waiting another trail. It is a shame that the son didn't get to know his mothers family. So many people lost out on so much. I do believe he did killer her, I believe he thought he would get away with it as he has all the times in the past. I thought the author did a nice job giving the facts, letting the reader come up with what they thought. I wish she would give an update it has been so many years and so much has happened that it would be nice to have someone go through all that has happened since this book was written.

I thought the narrator did a good job, I thought she did a great job of showing the different peoples emotions. There is no background noise, no repeating of words and no volume changes. I thought her character voices fit the characters really bring them to life.

I really enjoyed this story and really had a hard time putting it down. It really broke my heart, so sad that this is a true story, my heart goes out to the son and her family. I feel his family covered for him and new a lot more than they were saying.

A good true crime listen
