Publisher's summary

Jessica Fletcher must tread lightly when investigating a homegrown homicide....

Jessica has always been civic-minded, so when the director of the Cabot Cove Women's Shelter asks her to join the board of directors, she readily accepts, even though the shelter has been in the crosshairs of an unreasonable councilman who'd like to see it closed.

One night while Jessica is at the shelter, a woman walks in battered and bruised. Her husband is a respected businessman and regarded by all as a pillar of the community. Could this paragon of virtue have beaten his wife?

Despite Jessica's support and advice, the woman refuses to stay at the shelter, press charges, or even report the abuse. But a few days later, the entire town is shocked to hear that domestic abuse has turned to murder.

Investigating the crime, Jessica soon discovers that the woman's family has secrets and lies that go beyond domestic violence - and that the real killer may be hiding behind a wall of silence that could send the wrong person to prison....

It Happens in the Best of Families

Difficult subject for so many women and men to come to grips with. This is a start.

Murder She Wrote

As a a fan of the Murder She Wrote tv series, I decided to give the book a chance. I wasn't disappointed. In my mind's eye, I could see Angela Lansbury and Jerry Orbach as they palyed the characters on tv. I could also picture the town and all the other familiar characters like Seth and Mort. This could have easily been an episode that I have already seen in one of the many reruns of the long running show. The only difference was that the story took place over a period of months instead of the days depicted on the show. Sandra Burr did a good job narrating the story. All in all it was a pleasant reading/listening experience.

Murder She Wrote Domestic Malice

A very good, moving story. I just wish that in real life there would be this outcome of such a terrible situation. As with other Murder She Wrote books, I found the presentation excellent and it encourages me to want to read more of these books.

Good Story!

Good story, well narrated, informative. Liked that it brought awareness to domestic violence and the reality of how common it is, which can help someone be observant. characters portrayed Well!

A tough topic handled well

Domestic violence is a tough topic to cover well in a novel, but the author did a good job with it.

It was also nice to hear a different narrator with this book - my daughter and I had listened to a different Murder She Wrote with a different narrator amd had almost sworn off the series. But this narrator handles the different voices and accents well.

disappointing

Author failed to capture the true spirit of character Jessica Fletcher. Just an ok book with an ok story line.

This book had so much potential

Would you try another book from Jessica Fletcher and Donald Bain and/or Sandra Burr?

yes, I love the series

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I think this story had so much more potential. The subject matter is a serious one, but I think the author could have expanded the story line or the characters more. It was bland.

My least favorite

I've read about 3/4ths of the series so far, and this one is my least favorite by far. The first chapter in I found it very depressing and anger inducing. This is not what I want from my MSW stories. I was going to stop reading it and return it, but I read some reviews where people thought the ending was surprising. So I skipped a few chapters to get to the murder and the discovery of the murderer. I didn't think the reveal was surprising at all. The murderer was one of the people who was just as likely to have a motive to do it, so it wasn't out of left field. I still may return it because I have no intention of ever reading it again.

Story just lacked the mystery and challenge of a good read.

Bain and Fletcher were just not up to par with this book. There wasn't much mystery at all. It felt more like a lecture. The subject matter was important but the subject matter wasn't woven into a good story. I also did not like the reader. The voices were bland and thus the characters were difficult to differentiate from. An okay read but certainly not my favorite.
