About this listen

Murder, Mystery and a dog, and cat, of distinction

Book 10 in the Heathcliff Lennox series. A man shot through the heart with an arrow - the victim a rich outsider who has moved into Ashton Hall in the village of Ashton Steeple...which is Lennox's own village, and everyone is watching as he and Swift try to hunt down the killer.

Persi, Lennox's new wife, is keen to help, so is the whole household, including Tommy the boot boy and Greggs the ever stalwart butler. But the killer is clever, and devious and is always a step ahead, and it will take all of Swift's dogged detective work and Lennox's erratic intelligence, to track the murderer down.

Major Heathcliff Lennox - ex WW1 war pilot, 6feet 3inch, tousled dark blond hair, age around 30 – named after the hero of Wuthering Heights by his romantically minded mother – much to his great annoyance.

Another mystery with some favorite characters

This mystery is set in Lennox’s own village, so his wife and the other members of his household are all involved in the events, as well as various residents of the village. Swift joins Lennox, of course, to investigate the murder, bringing his wife, son, and puppy from Scotland. I enjoyed the scenes with the two couples interacting, whether it be their learning the tango or discussing the case. A whole set of suspects are introduced, ranging from the quirky to the despicable, with a surprise culprit revealed (at least to me). This entry in the series is one of my favorites.
Sam Dewhurst-Phillips provides exceptional narration, as always. His narration and with this author make the perfect audiobook marriage. Please never break up!
I highly recommend any and all of the Heathcliff Lennox books, especially the audio versions.

We've anxiously watched for the return of Lennox and Swift. Karen and Sam made it well worth the wait with an upheaval of character chaos, dead bodies everywhere and everyone a suspect. Superb writing and Exceptional performance! MORE PLEASE.🙏🙏🙏

Clever& Refreshing

I enjoy how Karen makes Lennox more relatable with his distractions with food and common everyday occurrences. He has these asides that remind you that he is not actually an inspector. Then you have Swift, who is all inspector, and it takes Lennox to remind him that there is more to life than solving crimes. I find Karen’s writing clever and refreshing.

The character development

The number of characters made it a bit tough to follow on first listen, so I listened twice. Satisfying ending, intricate story.
