About this listen

When a retired teacher and her bestie join a training class with the goal of walking a breast cancer charity race, they run into a speed bump when a member of the group is murdered in the park. He had no shortage of enemies. Blackmail, harassment, and smuggling top the list of motives.

Susan and Valerie both have detective daughters who, for once, request their mothers’ help. Their inroads with the training group put the amateur sleuths in a position to gather and pass along information.

Meanwhile, Susan receives a mysterious gift on her doorstep and has no idea what it is or who sent it. Valerie questions whether or not it’s time to start dating again after losing her husband. And Susan’s daughter has a secret of her own.

This is book 12 in the Susan Wiles schoolhouse mystery. As with each of the books, they can be read standalone. I listened to this audio and found Susan not nearly as annoying as I have in the past. Susan has joined a walking group that is suppose to help her manage her diabetes through diet and exercise. The group is gearing up for a 5K race in the near future. There are plenty of diet & exercise tips.

I figured out who & why a little before Valerie and Susan. I was surprised to learn how many people the killer had exterminated to keep the secret.

The book was well-written and I could tell great care had been given to working out all the twists and turns to detract the reader from the real killer.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

can you figure out who & why?
