About this listen

An urgent phone call from principal/friend Antonio Petrocelli sends retired music teacher Susan Wiles rushing through the doors of Westbrook Middle School, where she discovers a missing bookkeeper and a ransacked office.

Eager to keep the break-in quiet, the principal enlists her help. Too bad Susan's detective daughter, Lynette, doesn't appreciate her mother's interference in police business. That won't stop Susan.

What clues does she have? A missing bookkeeper, two brothers, a waterfall, and a suspicious death - what's the relationship? It's all very murky and Susan must solve the mystery while in the middle of an acute family crisis that may forever change the life of someone she loves.

I love Susan!

In the second book at school House mysteries, we find Susan being called to the middle school because the bookkeeper has gone missing. Everyone knows the bookkeeper Sophia is so nice and sweet and for someone to take her, it’s just mind-boggling. Who would want to hurt sweet Sophia and although her dead husband‘s family hold animosity towards her claiming she killed Adam her husband, Susan just can’t believe it. With please from Lynette and Jackson her daughter and partner, to stop snooping around. Susan is having none of it and as I say curiosity killed the cat, but in my experience it’s whatever the cat is nosing after that is usually killed. This story is told in different perspectives one from Susan and the second from Lynette and her partner. I found it so interesting and so funny in here a few lol moments. I love the school House mysteries and have read most of them. I always hope by the time I am finish going through the series she will have written more. Thank God Diane Weiner it’s fervent when putting out books. I highly recommend this one and gave it five stars and it deserves every one of them. I am a big fan of Miss whiners and cannot get enough. If you love cozy mysteries and a good backstory because Susan it’s trying to reconnect with her biological mother Audrey and this book even ends in a cliffhanger pertaining to that then you’ll love murder in the middle. I certainly did!

it's a doozy

Susan has recently found out she was adopted.

An urgent phone call from principal/friend Antonio Petrocelli, brings Susan to the school she has retired from. Her friend asks her to investigate the disappearance of Sophie Bartoli from Westbrook Middle School. Sophie is a bookkeeper and her office has been ransacked. This follows a disappearance of a bank employee. The missing bank employee turns up safe & sound just after Sophie goes missing.

Susan finds a silver bracelet with the engraving “Caleb” outside the abduction area.
Susan finds out who her birth mother is & gets medical information that may help her daughter Lynette.

As with most cozy mysteries, the detectives on the case are not supportive of family members or friends getting involved in investigations. Susan and Lynette often do not see eye to eye on Susan’s involvement.

There is plenty going on in this series and in this book. As always, the killer locates Susan and wants to put an end to her meddling. Hang on for the duration, it is worth the reveal.
