Publisher's summary
In August 2015, Limerick man Jason Corbett was murdered by his wife, Molly Martens, and her father, ex-FBI agent Tom Martens, in the bedroom of their luxury North Carolina home. He had been savagely beaten to death with a baseball bat and brick while his children slept nearby. For his sister, Tracey Corbett-Lynch, and the rest of his family in Ireland, it was just the beginning of the nightmare that would involve a custody battle for his orphaned children, an online hate campaign by Molly Martens, and, ultimately, the gripping trial that would lead to her conviction, alongside her father, for his murder.
My Brother Jason is the story of how this seemingly all-American girl from a picture-perfect family targeted the widowed Jason Corbett, becoming nanny to his children in a desperate bid to create the family and security she craved, thus setting in motion a series of events that would lead to Jason’s brutal killing by the woman he had once loved.
Here, for the first time, Tracey Corbett-Lynch tells her family's side of the story in a book that contains shocking revelations about Molly Marten's history of strange behavior and the lengths she was willing to go to in order to get custody of Jason's children.

Story
Natalie Queiroz was eight months pregnant when she was stabbed by her partner in the most vicious attack imaginable. In the space of nine minutes, and in broad daylight, Natalie was stabbed 24 times with a carving knife. She suffered horrific wounds to her lungs, liver, stomach and uterus, whilst the knife missed her baby by a margin of two millimetres, before the arteries in her wrists were methodically severed by the attacker she finally realised was her partner. After heroic intervention by passers-by and police, the attack was brought to an end, but her ordeal was not over.

Story
In 1978, two corpses were discovered in the sea off Guatemala. Hooded, bound with ropes and weighted down with heavy engine parts, Chris Farmer and his girlfriend Peta Frampton were thrown from a yacht on which they had been crewing. This is the gripping account of how Chris's family painstakingly gathered evidence against the boat's Californian skipper, Silas Duane Boston, working alongside the FBI, Interpol, and police in the UK and the USA. Almost four decades later in 2015, there was a major breakthrough in the case when, using Facebook, Chris's sister Penny tracked Boston down.

Story
On 7 August 1985, Nevill and June Bamber, their daughter, Sheila, and her two young sons, Nicholas and Daniel, were discovered shot to death at White House Farm in Essex. The murder weapon was found on Sheila's body; a Bible lay at her side. All the windows and doors of the farmhouse were secure, and the Bambers' son, 24-year-old Jeremy, had alerted police after apparently receiving a phone call from his father, who told him Sheila had 'gone berserk' with the gun. It seemed a straightforward case of murder-suicide, but a dramatic turn of events was to disprove the police's theory.

But from the moment Morgan saw the 30-year-old widow in the police department interview room, he knew he was seeing pure evil.

Story
On New Year’s Day 2013, two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner Gene Weingarten asked three strangers to, literally, pluck a day, month, and year from a hat. That day - chosen completely at random - was Sunday, December 28, 1986, by any conventional measure a most ordinary day. Weingarten spent the next six years proving that there is no such thing. That Sunday between Christmas and New Year’s turned out to be filled with comedy, tragedy, implausible irony, cosmic comeuppances, kindness, cruelty, heroism, cowardice, genius, idiocy, and much more....

Story
It was a bleak November in 2012 when Cari Lea Farver vanished from Omaha, Nebraska. Cari, 37, was a devoted mother, reliable employee, and loyal friend - not the type to shirk responsibilities, abandon her son, and run off on an adventure while her dying father took his last breaths. Yet, the many texts from her phone indicated she had done just that. While Cari's boyfriend, Dave Kroupa, and her supervisor were bewildered by her abrupt disappearance, they accepted the texts at face value. Her mother, Nancy Raney, however, was alarmed and reported Cari missing.

Story
On June 9, 2008, the butchered body of Travis Alexander was found in his Mesa, Arizona, home. The grisly nature of his death made instant headlines: With 29 knife wounds, his throat slit, and a gunshot to the head, Travis was left to die. The prime suspect in the case was Alexander's ex-girlfriend, the attractive and soft-spoken Jodi Arias. Though Arias initially said that she was nowhere near the scene of crime, little about this case was as it seemed, and before long she had been caught lying to police. As the investigation progressed, her lies evolved multiple times before finally resting on an appalling claim: She had killed Travis in self-defense.

Beautiful story, beautifully, written, and beautifully read.
I’m not sure I could say more about this title. I laughed and I cried, and I deeply felt every step along the way with the author. It was heart-
wrenching and beautiful at the same time.
I am sad to learn about the most recent developments of this case. I have no doubt, though, that Jason‘s children will be safe in the arms of his sister.

Heartfelt
I have not read a book that touched me this much ever. I stand amazed at the integrity of Jason’s family when faced with the worst characteristics of an entitled father and daughter. Respect and appreciation are what I gained for the community of North Carolina in showing real Christian hospitality. The Irish family values and their determination to uphold it come what may reinforce my view of a nation with firm foundations. One-of-a-kind, yet very human, life story. Thanks for sharing Jason’s story with me.

Writing this before seeing any other reviews
Because I don't like to be influenced by other views and have confirmation bias.
The main problem with this book is the narration. I don't know the nationality of the narrator and it may be that the lilting intonation is because she is Irish but I found it highly irritating. It made sentences sound sacchirine.
The accents were appalling.
I only kept going because I wanted to actually continue with the story.
And now I'm off to see if I was the only one with this critique.

Beautifully written and narrated
I really enjoyed listening to this terribly tragic story, the family and friends of the victim seem like wonderful people- very sad circumstances leading to this criminal act by Molly Martens and Tom Martens- they are sick individuals.

This needed to be told.
I saw the 20/20 special and they really painted it with a Martens family brush. Even watching that special you knew there was a whole lot they weren’t telling us. Without any spoilers this sets the record straight. My only issues (and it’s a minuscule one) is that the narrator could get a little sing-songy (don’t think that’s a word but think you get my drift) at some points but this is very minor as overall she was great. Well done!!!!

Hard to Finish
While this is quite a riveting story, it is poorly written and presented with such horrible narration, that it’s quite a struggle to get through this book.
The book is weak on details and overly loaded with emotions. The female narrator’s breathy voice trails off for the last phrase of virtually each sentence. The male characterizations are similar to those in horror movies at times. It’s OK for a free book. But I think looking up the news articles would be more interesting.

Terribly sad story with terrible narration
The narrator could not seem to get any accents right and has an extremely annoying way of lengthening the last syllable of every sentence in a distracting and melodramatic way. Almost gave up. Book makes no pretense of unbiased perspective, so no surprises in what was portrayed. It could have benefited from much crisper editing, as it seemed many anecdotes and quotes were repeated unnecessarily.

A story of love, loyalty, and determination
This beautifully written tribute to her brother who was cruelly taken from them moved me to tears on several occasions. The horrific details of Jason's story and what their family endured for years was very eloquently told by Tracy. I finished this book in less than 24 hours and it took me on an emotional roller coaster. This tragic story will make you weep for this sweet, loving, supportive family.
