About this listen

An Edwardian love story by New York Times best-selling author Marion Chesney.

Miss Marjorie Montmorency-James was lovely, young, and very impressionable. All these characteristics contrived to help her falling love with a certain Lord Philip's picture when it appeared in the newspaper. Until the day she saw Lord Philip's photo, she had only fantasized about a mysterious lover whose shadowy features were never quite clear.

Now she had a real live nobleman to dream about.

Little did she suspect that she would soon meet Lord Philip in the flesh. How could she imagine such a thing? After all, what could justify a daughter of the middle class rubbing shoulders with the nobility?

Then suddenly that great day was upon her; she was to meet Lord Philip. But nothing turned out the way Marjorie expected it would. Love - and danger - lay waiting for Marjorie in London.

I enjoy most of Chesney’s historical romance and have read this one before. This narration brings the minor characters to life such as the heroic cockney Charlie and the ghastly anarchists. I enjoyed the pace of the reading because the language is so true to the times, the characters and their setting. Plus it helps me absorb Chesney’s historical detail. I was left feeling keenly Marjorie’s heroic actions set against her many humiliations because of class divide. A great listen.

I loved the way this storyline switched on me, I am not used to being surprised halfway through Marion’s stories! I love them all, but this was a nice change.

This is a pretty good story I guess. Especially if you feel like being irritated by the main character to no end.

This girl just got on my nerves!!!!!

The narrator almost ruined it for me. Once I increased the playback speed everything was fine.

Lovely Story

I listened to the whole thing, and it’s an okay book for the escape package. But I grew tired of the continuous plots and never-ending ending. I’m glad I didn’t use a credit on it. Fantastic narration though.

A little tedious for me.
