About this listen

In Agatha Christie’s baffling detective story, Nemesis, a letter from a dead man instructs Miss Marple how to conduct an investigation into a puzzlingly unspecific crime.

In utter disbelief, Miss Marple read the letter addressed to her from the recently deceased Mr. Rafiel—an acquaintance she had met briefly on her travels. He had left instructions for her to investigate a crime after his death. The only problem was, he had failed to tell her who was involved or where and when the crime had been committed. It was most intriguing.

Soon she is faced with a new crime—the ultimate crime—murder. It seems someone is adamant that past evils remained buried. . . .

Well-read, relaxing Miss Marple Mystery

Emilia Fox did a brilliant job performing/reading this book. I love Agatha Christie novels, and Miss Marple ones are usually great for a "cozy mystery." The usual twists and surprises are there. Loved it!

Emilia Fox is Miss Marple Personified

The story is more contrived and convoluted than usual — but kept my interest throughout. Reading the mystery written before it — A Caribbean Mystery — will help you enjoy and understand this once. Many allusions to that mystery and those involved are made in this one.

This late novel has an elegiac tone in places — quite different from the usual gossip in the village tone we know and love.

I have often read criticisms of Emilia Fox’s reading and I have found fault with her American accent. But she captures Miss Marple’s gentle voice and the hard Intelligence and perception below it just perfectly.

Excellent performance of a great Christie.

Excellent performance by Emilia Fox. Classic Christie murder mystery. I very much enjoyed listening. One of her better stories, I think.

Nemesis

I think it's one of the best Miss Marple stories yet. I enjoyed the narrator very much.

A little loud

Loved story, good performance if somewhat problematic while wearing earbuds. Volume very changable. Good for AChristie fans

Miss Marple is an unlikely but powerful nemesis

This is a sequel of sorts to A Carabean Mystery. Miss Marple is brilliant in her typical soft-spoken, elderly appearance. I would have loved to hear Joan Hickson read her parts but was very pleased with Emilia Fox.

Good story, good narration.

Consistently good author, one of my favorites. I guessed wrong "whodunit" but thankfully Miss Marple did not. Nicely narrated too.

Wonderful Performance

Nemesis is one of my favorite Agatha Christie stories - great storyline, compelling and well-rounded characters. Emilia Fox is a good narrator and she does a good job of bringing the story to life. The one downside is her limited repertoire of voices - some of her character voices for males and females are indistinguishable from each other. This limitation in no way detracts from the story in my opinion.

The Master

A joy to listen to Christie and this is one of my favorite Miss Marple books. The characters and village life are very real and delightful.
