Publisher's summary

James Hook is a child who only wants to grow up.

When he meets Peter Pan, a boy who loves to pretend and is intent on never becoming a man, James decides he could try being a child - at least briefly. James joins Peter Pan on a holiday to Neverland, a place of adventure created by children's dreams, but Neverland is not for the faint of heart. Soon James finds himself longing for home, determined that he is destined to be a man. But Peter refuses to take him back, leaving James trapped in a world just beyond the one he loves. A world where children are to never grow up.

But grow up he does.

And thus begins the epic adventure of a Lost Boy and a pirate.

This story isn't about Peter Pan; it's about the boy whose life he stole. It's about a man in a world that hates men. It's about the feared Captain James Hook and his passionate quest to kill the Pan, an impossible feat in a magical land where everyone loves Peter Pan.

Except one.

I LOVED IT UNTIL...

the ending 😭
it was an excellent story and she tied everything in so well, but while the ending was well written, it bummed me out! Still recommend reading it though!

Neverland for grown-ups

I read some of the reviews before trying Never, Never so I knew it was aimed for adults or at least YA which is the group I would have placed it.

Hook is one of my favorite villains and I have always enjoyed him over Pan. If you feel the same way then this is the story for you. Never, Never is Hook's story and how he came to be. The story is really good and ties in the child version we all grew up with. The narrator is great and I look forward to discovering more books he has narrated. I really enjoyed the different voices he used for each character, especially Hook.

Awesome

I love this book. You well unexpectedly fall in love with James Hook and understand why he hates Peter pan.

Wow! Gives you a whole new perspective!

If you ever thought you knew Captain Hook, this sets things in an entirely new light. One that shows that sometimes the villain isn't that way without some input from the so called "good guy"! I loved it!

Really intriguing

I had no idea what to expect going into this book and I have to say I enjoyed every minute of it. The narrator was EXCELLENT he truly brought the book to life. This is not a children’s story but rather a great book for adults on how Hook became Captain Hook.

An interesting take on a classic story.

I really liked this book! I’ve always thought Peter Pan was kind a brat so it was interesting to read a story that portrayed him in such a negative light. I was a little bummed that Hook was always so sad or mad or conflicted and didn’t get much of a chance to be the pirate that he dreamed of! The love story was a little meh but overall I a great book!

NOT A CHILDREN'S STORY!

I downloaded this book hoping for something light-hearted and fun. It wasn't. The description sounded interesting, but should have included phrases like "dark", "romantic", "thought-provoking". I'm definitely glad I did not listen with my children in the car, like we often do. It was well written, we got to see where James Hook started out and hear about his descent to became the awful villain we know. Unfortunately there's a lot of mild adult content, so this book needs to be removed from the children and teens category.

This was a great POV

I loved listening to this story. It was really fun to hear a different POV of this story. Tho the ending did make me sad it was for sure worth listening to and I’ll listen to it again in the future.
