About this listen

These Violent Delights meets This Savage Song in this sequel to the contemporary fantasy Only a Monster from Vanessa Len that New York Times bestselling author Stephanie Garber called "mind-bending, heart wrenching, and unputdownable!”

Despite all of the odds, Joan achieved the impossible. She reset the timeline, saved her family – and destroyed the hero, Nick.

But her success has come at a terrible cost.

She alone remembers what happened. Now, Aaron, her hard-won friend – and maybe more – is an enemy, trying to kill her. And Nick, the boy she loved, is a stranger who doesn’t even know her name. Only Joan remembers that a greater and more dangerous enemy is still out there.

When a deadly attack forces Joan back into the monster world, she finds herself on the run with Nick – as Aaron closes in.

Torn between love and family and monstrous choices, Joan must find a way to re-gather her old allies to face down the deadliest of enemies, and to save the timeline itself.

Vanessa Len’s stunning Only a Monster trilogy continues with this second instalment, a thrilling journey where a secret past threatens to unravel everyone's future.

The continued story of Only a Monster did not disappoint! I love the magic system, super unique and powerful and fun. Surprises at every chapter, Vanessa guides you into the realm and storyline beautifully in this book. Fated mates? Maybe! We shall see in the coming book(s). Great read, just great!

Great dynamics!

I continued with it because I wanted to know the direction she was taking the story. Nice twist at the end. it just took a while to get there and really dragged toward the bbeginning and in the middle. I will listen to the last one to see how she ends the story.

was a little slow

I know that there is a third book in the works and my only real complaint is I'm impatient and I wish I knew when it was coming out.

Sadder than the first book but I'm invested in the characters and the story. In real life sometimes you find yourself with only complicated choices and I think that is really represented here. However in real life usually your bad choices are boring. Give me the magic.

Love this author! Cannot wait for the 3rd book.

Such a fun ride. I think the narrator made it even better. This and the first one.

Fun story - amazing narration!

I want to preface by saying that I enjoy the series, and I'm very much looking forward to the next one. I binge read it over three days because I was so engaged in the story.

When I say that it is not satisfying, I'm talking about the range of emotions I felt while listening. I cried (a lot). I was tense and nervous. I was hopeful. I felt so many things, except relief or satisfaction. Every slightly happy moment was tinged with guilt or sadness, which made sense for the character to feel. The plot points and structure made sense, and was a deliberate choice that worked well. But unlike in the first book, there weren't those slow moments for the characters to grow closer. There wasn't that happy romance feeling, or feelings of success. It was just a book full of shame, sadness, loneliness, and failure. Interesting choice and not necessarily a bad one, but very hard for a sympathetic reader to experience.

Incredibly engaging, but no satisfaction

This is a great continuation of Only a Monster and it blew expectations. Great world building and twists. Just upset I have to sit and wait for book 3

This is how sequels are made
