About this listen

They’ll protect what’s theirs - or die trying.

The McDonald clan have learned their lessons the hard way these last months. Shane and Jodi finally realize they must keep their reunited family close and protect their own above all others to survive in this new post-apocalyptic reality. The repairs on the home are complete, solar panels installed, and the now operational pump means they won’t have to continue collecting rainwater for the foreseeable future.

But it’s no longer just outsiders wreaking havoc on the small Georgia town, as unprepared townsfolk learn of their hard-earned stores - and threaten to take their prepper supplies by force.

To stem the mayor’s confiscation plans and keep the angry hordes at bay, the McDonalds’ blind teenaged daughter spearheads a community garden project to teach the citizens how to survive the coming lean years. But word travels fast when there are too many hungry mouths to feed.

And the gang that has long menaced the McDonalds comes looking to exact their pound of flesh.

When loved ones get caught in the crossfire, Shane and company won’t hold back against an enemy that threatens to take everything they have left.

Or kill those they hold dear.

This novel contains violence.

A strong end to the series

After some mixed feelings about earlier books in the series, it took me awhile to listen to this one. But, wow! It is a consistent plot, tells an interesting stand alone story, keeps the twists and action going and ties up the whole thing with a surprising ending.

Narrator did a great job of hitting the right tone and pace.

The wolves are circling!

The McDonald family finally assembles at Mom’s house in Macon. Thinking the worst is over and they can relax a bit now that they’re all together. Unfortunately, we know it doesn’t work like that. Once the supermarket shelves run dry it only a matter of time before Mr. Greed rears his ugly head. Mom being a long-time prepper, she’s about to have many fingers pointed at her. There’s also a motorcycle gang making its rounds through the small towns. Lots to do and plenty of action before it’s all over. The McDonald Family Face New Challenges

The 'Surviving the End' series is a favorite. I took an opportunity to request a free review copy of the audiobook for 'New World' and am now voluntarily writing an opinion of it.

This concluding chapter of the CME/EMP series sees the McDonald family still struggling to survive in this new world. Beth has prepared well, but outside forces threaten all that she's done to help her family survive. The community is slow to recognize that their survival is going to be dependent on the work they're willing to put forth.

The family that Grace Hamilton has created in the McDonalds is among my favorites. They are well-written with good character development. They still make mistakes, but learn from them and come out better for it. All of the main core of characters have grown during the series. This book gives the reader a satisfying conclusion to how far they've come since the beginning of their ordeal.

The book also offers plenty of post-apoc suspense. The danger not only exists outside the community, but also from within as residents become more desperate to feed their families. The author sets up a great sense of anxiety around these characters that readers have come to love.

Chris Monteiro does a good job with narration. His character voices are very well done.

Highly recommended.

Great way to end a series!

I was pretty satisfied with how this audiobook concluded. The entire series was exciting and I thought the author wrapped things up nicely while maintaining the excitement throughout.

Very Very Calm After CME/EMP

First of all, I am writing this review after only listening to book three in this series. And apparently, this is the conclusion to the trilogy. I will have to listen to the fist two in order to get the complete picture. But I figured since I have listened to so many PA fiction books that I could put the pieces of the puzzle together as best I could, and work from there. After seeing how the real world has responded to the covid lockdowns, and the subsequent, horrific looting and rioting, the people in this novel are downright dossal. Honestly, people are behaving better in this book after such an event than they are in real life, with events not comparable. No one could not have known that prior, and this is a fictional story, but it is a good guideline. One must know that people will behave worse than the lowest animals in catastrophes. We've already seen it, and this incident is mild compared to a CME that wipes out power for the entire continent.

The McDonald family is a solid family, and the townspeople are too. The incidents in this book are minor compared to some. One would expect mass rioting, violent break-ins, and mass looting. But I love the idea of family and purpose outlined here. They're in this together, and working together to stay civilized. Bravo. And they're all against the town socialist, who ends up breaking into their home in search of food! That is one of the best parts of the story. If only real life was this way. And people actually were capable of behaving themselves, not stealing, and not acting like entitled reptiles.

Chris Monteiro does a great job narrating. This is the second book of his I've listened to. He's steady and does very solid work here. His voice doesn't fluctuate too much, and his accents aren't over the top. Nicely done.

great book

Definitely a great series to listen to. Book 3 follows the storyline wonderfully. The Mcdonald clan is in for some rough time! Add this book & continue the story!

Great ending!

New World is an excellent conclusion to the Surviving the End trilogy. The McDonalds, dogs included, have faced many challenges, unpredictability, and danger while stepping out of their comfort zones. Many lessons have been learned, mainly that family comes before anything, especially in a post-apocalyptic world. Grace Hamilton has done a brilliant job with the character development, the dynamics between them, and the dialog. The storyline is engaging and enjoyable. The family is working towards their future survival, strengthening their security, and building a home in an uncertain world. The ending was terrific, I'm glad that I had the chance to listen to this audiobook.

The narration by Chris Monteiro is excellent; his reading is well-paced, and characters are well-portrayed. Overall, this was an entertaining post-apocalyptic series, and definitely worth the listen. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

The Ending

I absolutely love Post-Apocalyptic books without zombies and military with good narration. The main characters are Shane and Jody McDonald, their children Owen, Violet and Kaylee, Jody’s mom Beth and brother Mike as well as the dogs Ruby and Bauer, there are a couple more such as Dr Yates and Sheriff James, likable ones and few not likable. There is a lot of action especially when people are starting to run out of food and the mayor demands all food turned in and to be distribute to all but grandma has a lot hidden in hidden area under the basement when their town starts to get invaded by a group of bikers. Loved the ending and wish it could continue. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. THANK YOU

Fitting Ending

This audiobook is very consistent and is what I believe to be, a fitting end to the series. It picks up right where booked 2 left off and it’s a little slow to get started but all the usual suspects pay us a visit during this one. Our main characters are thrown into many different situations and it kept me very engaged throughout the entire book. I think I would’ve liked things to be a little bit more difficult on our main characters but overall, it was a pretty good series. They all definitely came along way and had to overcome a lot. The narration was quite good and consistent with the first couple of books in the series. The male and female voices are great and you can always tell if a different character is speaking. I think the only thing that I would’ve changed was making things a little bit tougher and everything not wrapping up so nice and neat. I don’t believe there’s room for a spin off or a fourth book. I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review from audiobook Boom. This in no way affected my opinion of this work
