The #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder—now a hit Netflix series—returns with her first novel for adults: a twisty thriller about a young woman trying to solve her own murder.

“This truly unique premise snowballs into a roller-coaster ride of thrilling suspense and knock-out twists!”—Freida McFadden, author of The Housemaid

In seven days Jet Mason will be dead.

Jet is the daughter of one of the wealthiest families in Woodstock, Vermont. Twenty-seven years old, she’s still waiting for her life to begin. I’ll do it later, she always says. She has time.

Until Halloween night, when Jet is violently attacked by an unseen intruder.

She suffers a catastrophic head injury. The doctor is certain that within a week, the injury will trigger a deadly aneurysm.

Jet has never thought of herself as having enemies. But now she looks at everyone in a new light: her family, her former best friend turned sister-in-law, her ex-boyfriend.

She has at most seven days, and as her condition deteriorates she has only her childhood friend Billy for help. But nevertheless, she’s absolutely determined to finally finish something:

Jet is going to solve her own murder.

While I have read Holly’s previous YA books I had not listened to any on audio and that is clearly a crying shame. This was SUCH a fantastic audio listen. The banter and internal dialogue would not have been the same without the narrators raspy rendition and top notch dramatic flare. The story entirely satire but trying to be serious was a listen I couldn’t stop listening to. A play straight through sorta read that by the end, although I wasn’t necessarily surprised, I had hoped would pull a miracle and everything would end up being okay. But I guess, that’s life right? Sometimes the clouds really are frogs, and sometimes they’re lemons

Part murder mystery, part falling in love, part..? Frogs?

Great story, should have read the book. The narration is terrible. The voice the narrator does for other characters is bad and distracting

Bad narration

Holly Jackson is my girl and this book was amazing and emotional but I couldn’t stand the monotone narration who could barely do one character let alone the others. She gave no spark to jet who when reading the book is very witty. Super sad how the narration turned out compared to her other books who do a great job

Awful narration

The story was good—the narration was not—with this the interpretation I did not like any of the characters, and most of the characters were given a squeaky, broken childish voice that was unbearable.

Fun story

I couldn’t stand the narrator voice for the different characters and it really pulled me out of the story. Good book though- moves slower in the beginning and then speeds up quick at the end. It had a good twist.

Not the best, not the worst

Ok first of all if you’ve not read this book, by all means do! It’s great! Original storyline, great characters. Truly, great read/listen!!! Go ahead and get it and stop reading now as possible !spoilers! ahead.
Again, great book. Truly. I just personally think this had potential to be a great series of books! This town, this setting, these people, their stories and backstories, and come on!!! A detective who got her start by solving her own murder!!! That’s bada**!! Or rather would’ve been bada**. That alone could’ve been extremely prolific!! And I know, I know..to stay true to the story, etc …and to keep with reality and such, it had to end that way. But couldn’t she have at least remained a time bomb? Her condition not taking the expected course? Happens in the medical community all the time.
That said, you’re a great writer and I’m sure don’t need a series but we the readers, like series!! There are waaayyyy too many examples so I’ll leave it there. I would’ve liked more but oh well, too late now because now I wouldn’t care. It’s just over. I guess I’m saying what I’ve said before, unless you’re writing the next great American classic, maybe go ahead and pander to your genre’s readers.
Just a thought😁

Great read! Buy it! But I do have thoughts…

Loved it loved it loved it. It had an interesting premise and I didn't even come close to figuring out the ending. Or the other ending! Lol

Soooo good

The storyline was okay, a bit far fetched and honestly, the ending for me was so predictable. The main character was painfully irritating without any redeeming qualities in my opinion. In fact, there was not one character in this book that is likeable AT ALL.
The narration might be the worst I have ever heard. I was so confused at the beginning because the female narrator made her voice higher for the male doctor but much deeper for the main character. And for the mother and sister in law, the whiny high pitched voice put on for them was like nails on a chalkboard. Honestly, I will be on the lookout for this narrator because if they're narrating another book, I would forego audiobook all together. Might've been more enjoyable with a better narrator or full cast narration.
I recommend if you really want to read this book, please pick up a physical copy as this one is horrendous to listen to for almost 15 hours.

No likeable characters, PAINFUL narration

So many twists and turns. What I like about it was the premise- completely fresh and well done.
