About this listen

Steven Ashton, a billionaire from New York, and Emily Grant, on the run from the law... and when they meet he can’t help falling for her. What he doesn’t know is that interfering in her life will put his own life in danger. When billionaire Steven Ashton couldn’t stand his high society social life anymore, he left the stress of New York on a vacation for his soul. The need to meet real down to earth people led him to a small Nebraska town. He didn’t want to lie about who he was, but he couldn’t exactly tell them the truth.

Emily could have easily fallen in love with Steven, under different circumstances, but her past was catching up with her and she needed a new life. If the authorities found out about her, she could lose the one thing that meant everything, her four year old son. Not What She Seems is a "sweet" romantic suspense, appropriate for all ages.

Change the Narrator!!!

Great story with unexpected twists. However the narrator was THE WORST ever. The robotic over pronunciation was almost unbearable. The book would be infinitely better with even a mediocre narrator.

Not

The story was good, but the reader was stilted and emotionless. I liked the intense mystery, but had to tolerate the poor narration.

Not a bad story - narration was distracting

Overall the story was decent, not the best but not horrible. What really bothered me was the narration - something just seemed off & was very distracting. It almost felt as if the narrator was reading a bit too slowly and over pronouncing the words.

Excellent story. Difficult narration.

Loved the story. Great suspense yet clean with no graphic sex. Would definitely buy another of this author's books. However, the narrator spoke in a choppy staccato style and sounded very much like a robot with monotone intonation pretty much throughout the book. Would definitely not want to listen to this narrator again.

I liked the story but the narration is awful

the writing is good and the story was really involved and surprising! the narrator on this book was utterly awful though. I could barely get through it and found myself fast forwarding sometimes. I was really sad that happened because I really liked the book but I will never buy anything narrated by him again. I'd recommend it in print!

very good book

the book was soo good, the story line was excellent and most of the time I can figure out who did it but this one kept me guessing to the end. I didn't love the narrator though.

Not what she seems not the best

The story was mildly entertaining, enough that I listened to the end. It must be what held me because the narration was awful. The reading was stilted and unnatural, the main reason I was tempted so often to stop the story. Listening to the “performer” was close to torturous. I won’t be looking for this author in the future and will definitely avoid anything read by this narrator.

The narration was the only, hinderance to this great story. 2.5 stars.

Couldn't stand narration

Honestly, cannot say whether the story was good. narrator was so horrible that I couldn't listen to it. Didn't even make it more than 10 minutes.

The narrator ruined this book

I honestly think this could have been a really good book but the narrator ruined it for me. His voice was cringy and monotone the whole time. He chopped sentences up and I had a hard time focusing on the story line. The story line was good but I there were too many things that didn't do it for me. For Steven being a millionaire with all sorts of security it made no sense he would leave a laptop behind with auto fill passwords in a vacant apartment for Richard to find. When Emily left for the funeral she left her son (whom she never leaves) with a guy she hasn't seen in 6 years? Lastly the love story made zero sense. What millionaire would go to those lengths over someone who he's only gone on a couple of dates with? Just too many elements of the book were unbelievable.
