About this listen

Two lonely towns in Colorado: Hope and Despair. Between them, 12 miles of empty road. Jack Reacher never turns back. It's not in his nature. All he wants is a cup of coffee. What he gets is big trouble. So in Lee Child’s electrifying new novel, Reacher - a man with no fear, no illusions, and nothing to lose - goes to war against a town that not only wants him gone, it wants him dead.

It wasn’t the welcome Reacher expected. He was just passing through, minding his own business. But within minutes of his arrival a deputy is in the hospital and Reacher is back in Hope, setting up a base of operations against Despair, where a huge, seething walled-off industrial site does something nobody is supposed to see...where a small plane takes off every night and returns seven hours later...where a garrison of well-trained and well-armed military cops - the kind of soldiers Reacher once commanded - waits and watches...where above all two young men have disappeared and two frightened young women wait and hope for their return.

Joining forces with a beautiful cop who runs Hope with a cool hand, Reacher goes up against Despair - against the deputies who try to break him and the rich man who tries to scare him - and starts to crack open the secrets, starts to expose the terrifying connection to a distant war that’s killing Americans by the thousand.

Now, between a town and the man who owns it, between Reacher and his conscience, something has to give. And Reacher never gives an inch.

nor one of the better Reacher Stories

It was not interesting to me in the beginning but picked up about half way thru. Typical Reacher Story

Too extreme

I have enjoyed a number of Jack Reacher novels but after this one I may never listen to another. No spoilers, but let me just say that Jack goes far beyond what a reasonable, rational person would do. Also a lot of loose ends, plot holes, and things that just plain did not make sense. By far the worst Reacher novel I have encountered.

Nothing To Loose was engaging from the start.

Would you listen to Nothing to Lose again? Why?

I would listen to it again, perhaps after some time. The story built in intensity with the plot becoming more convoluted and strange, which makes for a good read. Except for Jack Reacher, the characters are not very fleshed out. I like the reader, Dick Hill, very much. His range of voices for the characters is extensive and believable. Kept me focused on the progression of the action, through the voice of each character.

What other book might you compare Nothing to Lose to and why?

The Jack Reacher stories are fairly similar. Jack Reacher's character is partly ethical and partly violent. He plunges headlong into each conflict.

Which character – as performed by Dick Hill – was your favorite?

I like Jack Reacher's character the best. I also liked the banker character who'd gotten in over his head.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Jack Reacher found out one of the dead guys was his brother.

Any additional comments?

A good read, engaging, if you like twists and turns in the plot with action and violence.

Good read

Another chapter in tbe Reacher series. This one will keep you guessing until the last chapter.
It did seem shorter than the rest of the Reacher books.

Abridged! Do not buy!

I didn’t realize till Pat way through that it seemed choppy and had weird chapter divisions. It is abridged. My mistake for not checking but I don’t get why it would be even sold this way.
