About this listen

You've seen him on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart offering up his trademark angry observational humor on everything from politics to pop culture. You've seen his energetic stand-up performances on HBO, Comedy Central, and in venues across the globe. Now Lewis Black's volcanic eruptions can be found in Nothing's Sacred, a collection of rants against stupidity and authority, which oftentimes go hand in hand.

With subversive wit and intellectual honesty, Lewis examines the events of his life that shaped his anti-authoritarian point of view and developed his comedic perspective. Growing up in 1950s suburbia when father knew best and there was a sitcom to prove it, he began to regard authority with a jaundiced eye at an early age. And as that sentiment grew stronger with each passing year, so did his ability to hone in on the absurd.

True to form, he puts common sense above ideology and distills hilarious, biting commentary on all things politically and culturally relevant.

For Lewis Black Fans

If you don't like his humor, you won't like the book. I love his humor and I enjoyed the book. It is not a series of his bits, although I remember hearing a couple on the Daily Show. Most of the book is about his life and how he came to think the way he does. I found it fun and entertaining. I even laughed out loud several times.

New respect for Lewis Black

Listened to all of this in one day. Before I listened to this I had heard many an LB highlight but never really sat and listened to him. Very interesting guy who I found more in common with than I thought I would. Hilarious, insightful to a degree someone only that walk of life can be, and my favorite, cynical and dark like the bits I had seen. Good listen.

Too Funny

Part autobiographical part stand up, this guy presents himself in such a self-depreciating way that it stays with you.

Two thumbs up!!

Black isn't just the funniest comedian out there today, he's also the smartest! A great book, a great listen with Black also narrating - and anyone, who has the pleasure of listening to the audio book will certainly enjoy this very much.

Walk down memory lane

A walk through Lewis's mind, Childhood, and personal history. I found it to be rather funny in a Robin Williams on Quaaludes or like a Rush Limbaugh if he were actually funny. There's one for ya Lewis! Thanx for the history lesson.

Entertaining look into Lewis Black's life

I enjoyed this book, but, like many other semi-autobiographical works by comedians, it isn't hilarious, and ultimately lacks a clear plot narrative, other than taking a humorous look at various events in the life of the author: Lewis Black. If you like Black's comedy, you'll likely also enjoy this book.

Classic Lewis with a twist

First, you have to be a fan of Lewis Black's sarcastic style. Second you cannot expect the non-stop manic delivery of his live show. His history is interesting and so is the perspective on the times that he shares. I enjoyed this audiobook but unlike other listeners I have heard the material before on his Live On Broadway DVD. Now that I have both, I'll go back to the DVD, because in my opinion this is how Mr. Black is best, dark sarcastic and manic.

I'm not sure what others were listening to...

I enjoyed this! I was like being at several back-to-back Lewis Black rant performances. There were funny moments, maddening moments, and heart-felt moments, but it was all Lewis Black. How could anyone be disappointed!
