About this listen
“Food is Love (But Don’t Eat Too Much!)”
Eat less. Eat clean. Avoid these foods. Eating is a life-giving pleasure, but confusing messages from the diet and nutrition industries may leave you wondering what to eat. Do you find yourself:
Eating food that doesn’t nourish or energize you?
Munching mindlessly or emotionally?
Flipping between feeling "good" and "bad" about your eating?
Thinking about food and your body more than you’d like?
Discover how to trust your body, and to eat with love and common sense:
- Eat without deprivation or overeating.
- Accept your body and trust its wisdom.
- Deal with setbacks, destructive thoughts, and self-defeating attitudes.
- Create healthy habits to nurture yourself.
- Ditch dieting so you free yourself to live a life you love.
Nourish will guide you to transform your eating from self-control to self-love, using a 10-step healing process. In this book, Heidi Schauster, MS, RDN, CEDRD-S, founder of Nourishing Words Nutrition Therapy, shares 20 years of wisdom from her Boston-area practice treating disordered and emotional eating.

Fat Talk argues for a reclaiming of “fat,” which is not synonymous with “unhealthy,” “inactive,” or “lazy.” Talking to researchers and activists, as well as parents and kids across a broad swath of the country, Sole-Smith lays bare how America’s focus on solving the “childhood obesity epidemic” has perpetuated a second crisis of disordered eating and body hatred for kids of all sizes. She exposes our society’s internalized fatphobia and elucidates how and why we need to stop “preventing obesity” and start supporting kids in the bodies they have.

Story
Sixty-eight percent of Americans have dieted at some point in their lives. But upwards of 90 percent of people who intentionally lose weight gain it back within five years. And as many as 66 percent of people who embark on weight-loss efforts end up gaining more weight than they lost. If dieting is so clearly ineffective, why are we so obsessed with it? The culprit is diet culture, a system of beliefs that equates thinness to health and moral virtue, promotes weight loss as a means of attaining higher status, and demonizes certain ways of eating while elevating others.

As much as we might try to resist, endings happen in every moment—the end of a breath, the end of a day, the end of a relationship, and ultimately the end of life. And accompanying each ending is a beginning, though it may be unclear what the beginning holds. In How We Live Is How We Die, Pema Chödrön shares her wisdom for working with this flow of life—learning to live with ease, joy, and compassion through uncertainty, embracing new beginnings, and ultimately preparing for death with curiosity and openness rather than fear.

“It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle.” You've probably heard this phrase from any number of people in the wellness space. But as Christy Harrison reveals in her latest book, wellness culture promotes a standard of health that is often both unattainable and deeply harmful. The Wellness Trap delves into the persistent, systemic problems with that industry, offering insight into its troubling pattern of cultural appropriation and its destructive views on mental health, and shedding light on how a growing distrust of conventional medicine has led ordinary people to turn their backs on science.

Story
For decades, the society’s notion of a perfect body has forced millions of people to follow different kinds of diets. These diets are either for weight gain or weight loss. However, both include following a set pattern for eating. These eating patterns are about cutting off nutrient-dense food groups, crunching on calories rather than meals, and depriving oneself of food. Such eating patterns lead to guilt, bingeing, emotional eating, and negative body image. The audiobook, Intuitive Eating, focuses on eating for satisfaction, fullness, and nurturing a safe relation with food.

Important and Compassionate
I read this book a few years ago and recently listened to the audiobook. Heidi writes with such empathy and this is reiterated in the audiobook, as she speaks with such compassion. Nourish provides the reader with insight from personal and professional experience, which makes the steps highlighted in this book so clear and engaging. It touches on very important aspects of having a healthy relationship with food and your body, addressing how messages from today’s society can make this more difficult. I think that this book is extremely important and I would recommend it to everyone! As diet culture becomes more prominent, I am hopeful that this book can make a change and help many people.

Couldn’t finish
I can’t stand the sound of the tongue clicking at the beginning of various sentences. About 50% of the book. I hate mouth noises. Other than that, the voice and clarity relative to speaking is nice to listen to. But I can’t get over the tongue noise. It makes it hard to listen to what she has to say.

Valuable
I enjoyed this book and found a lot of good insight and inspiration- but I do wish the author had offered a downloadable pdf of her charts and lists that she mentions and refers to. Instead she suggests getting the print or e book version- but I’ve already bought this audio book and don’t feel inclined to re-purchase it in another form just to have access to her workbook aspects.

Great read and resource
This book and Heidi Schauster's wisdom have been a revelation to me. Her information and insights have helped me let go of shame I wasn't aware I was still carrying about my body and relationship with food and exercise. Who knew that after decades in recovery for an eating disorder, I could experience an even deeper level of healing about how I interact with food, take care of my body, and how I feel about myself overall?!?!

A tease
The content was very good. But, every three seconds the author essentially taunts the audiobook purchaser by saying, “I’m not going to waste my time reading the content that exists on this page in the book or ebook.” That was shocking. Why not provide a link to the ebook for audiobook purchasers? My experience felt incomplete without it.
