About this listen

A parable about the secret to engaging and motivating people to do great things in all walks of life, by the bestselling author of Taking People With You.

Based on real experiences that David Novak had as the Chairman and CEO of Yum! Brands, this parable will empower listeners to recognize the contributions of those around them in order to drive bigger and better results. It's not hard, it's not expensive, and you don't need an MBA or even a position of authority to do it. It's a deceptively simple principle that can have a huge impact on both your life and your business.

Jeff Johnson, the new CEO of The Happy Face Toy Company, has one year to save his family's famous toy company, which has fallen on hard times following the death of his father. If Jeff fails, the whole company will fail. As he races to save his family's legacy by getting the company back on track, Jeff encounters downtrodden factory workers and an uninspired executive team. Then a birthday gift from his grandson gives Jeff an important insight into why business is suffering: the secret ingredient to making people happy and engaged is missing.

During his time as CEO of Yum!, Novak harnessed the power of employee recognition to revitalize the culture. The principles he lives by, from handing out personalized awards to coaxing office culture into life, are at the core of this parable. Novak recently founded OGO Enterprises, the world's first recognition brand focused on appreciating all people for who they are and what they do.

Become a great leader by reading this book!

Would you consider the audio edition of O Great One! to be better than the print version?

Absolutely! They're virtually similar.

What was one of the most memorable moments of O Great One!?

The change at the corporate level. If you can't ge the top leadership on board and believe what you are doing, then nothing will work to implement change and smoothing very small.....recognition.

Which character – as performed by James Foster – was your favorite?

Bob and Anne. Bob was an inspirational character who held on for so many years and just saw the tail end change. He could have been a negative person, but instead did his job and did it well by teaching others.

Anne was a pessimist, but eventually saw what a little bit of recognition can do to make her bottom-line grow.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Want to make some money............MAKE YOUR PEOPLE DANCE, LAUGH, SMILE, AND WIN!

Any additional comments?

The book needs to be read by the leadership first and truly understood. Once you have this group on the train, then bring all other levels together by reading the book together and truly understanding the principles. IT WORKS!

this is my husband's review.

the narrator was great and precise, the attempted accent for non native English speaker was subtle and respectful. great book for a quick read and simple yet informative.

OGO

Loved this book! Listening to the book and then taking action through the OGO website was a gift for my soul. I'm ordering a case of the books to give away and a case of jars to recognize my OGO's in hard copy form.

A great story that will change your view forever

Where does O Great One! rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was such a fun and engaging story that I reduced the speed from my normal 1.5 to 1x just so I could enjoy it instead of just get through it.

What did you like best about this story?

This timeless story impacts my entire life. My business, my family and all of my relationships. The one thing all people crave is true appreciation. It's a valuable gift because it's something they can't give themselves

Which scene was your favorite?

The image of the OGO Jar is a great idea. I went to his site to buy a few immediately after finishing the book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Who in my life has no idea of what they mean to me in my business, life, family, spiritual walk etc. Are they "getting ready to retire" without knowing. Have I lost the opportunity to bless them with a few words of appreciation that would cost me little but would be priceless to them.

Any additional comments?

This book will be a classic.
