About this listen

At last, a book that shows you how to build - design - a life you can thrive in at any age or stage.

Designers create worlds and solve problems using design thinking. Look around your office or home - at the tablet or smartphone you may be holding or the chair you are sitting in. Everything in our lives was designed by someone. And every design starts with a problem that a designer or team of designers seeks to solve.

In this book, Bill Burnett and Dave Evans show us how design thinking can help us create lives that are both meaningful and fulfilling, regardless of whom or where we are, what we do or have done for a living, or how young or old we are. The same design thinking responsible for amazing technology, products, and spaces can be used to design and build your career and your life, a life of fulfillment and joy, constantly creative and productive, one that always holds the possibility of surprise.

Critic reviews

"An empowering book based on their popular class of the same name at Stanford University.... Perhaps the book's most important lesson is that the only failure is settling for a life that makes one unhappy. With useful fact-finding exercises, an empathetic tone, and sensible advice, this book will easily earn a place among career-finding classics." (Publishers Weekly)

"Both authors narrate this helpful audio with the same refreshing tone that's embodied in their conversational advice on making your life great. They speak with the natural cadences of experienced professors who care about their students and feel confident about their material...this empowering audio will motivate many listeners to create lives that line up better with who they are." A start in the right direction.

I believe learning, change, and reinvention is required for a full and valuable life. This book, and its ideas, speak to that thinking with a well-laid-out approach.
I would recommend this to coal miners, steel workers, and anyone else stuck...and anyone else unwilling to say I can't.

i wish I read it two years ago!!

Don't make the same mistake i did. I stopped reading it when all the questions about who i was started coz I was on a big crossroad in my life so i decided by not doing anything. Now...i guess God put the book again on my mind and I finished it wishing I read it and followed the tasks years ago. My life would be so much different! but hey...as the authors say take it as experiments. Enjoy it!

terrific guidance for life!

I heard the author speak in a conference and bought his book. I absolutely love it and bought it for all of my closest friends and family who asked the question what to be when they grow up.

Solid read for new or frustrated job seekers

I really don't like "self help" books but wanted to digest this for a professional project. it was great. It's not really self help as much as a bunch of easy to understand, "duh" why didn't I think of that, ideas for "reframing" thoughts and ideas. Failure Immunity is my new favorite way to think about things...read it to understand that.
I found several good nuggets and I'll probably give it a second listen.

Great Info, Decent Delivery

I wished they had handed off the narration to a pro- I found their vocals and style a little too cutesy, and their attempts at humor to fall flat. That said, the course they developed is superb, possibly second to none.
