About this listen

Best-selling author Mary Jo Putney’s romantic Regency-set series features soldiers, spies - and the special redemption only love can bring....

A man who has lost his honor has nothing....

London, 1816. As a Royal Navy officer, Lucas Mandeville, Lord Foxton, has fought his share of battles on the high seas, followed by long years of imprisonment. But on this night, he’d rather be on the burning deck of a ship than in a ballroom, where it is just a matter of time before someone challenges him because of what happened on the Continent.

A woman who has lost her reputation is nothing....

When dark-haired beauty Kyla Douglas arrives, a whisper of scandal ripples through the ton. The disgraced divorcee’s entrance is an act of daring. Which is exactly why Lucas asks her to dance....

A couple who stands together has everything....

Unexpectedly, Lucas offers Kyla his aid in finding the evidence to regain her good name - and her beloved young son. Together they investigate the wicked conspiracy that destroyed her life, and in the midst of danger, find a deep love that will redeem them both - if only they can live long enough to build a future together.

Once Dishonored

Excellent story by Mary Jo Putney. I believe its book 5 of this series. I easily recommend the book/audiobook. The audio format is provided by Beverley A. Crick, an excellent, experienced narrator. 😍

Good, but Brit pronunciations were lacking

This narrator chose to use Americanized pronunciations for many words instead of the way that upperclass British spoke. Even though the author lives now in Canada and probably North America accounts for more purchasers than across the pond, it would've been much better for the narrator to respect the fact that this is a book and a series set in 1800s Britain and Europe!

Brits, especially the closed ranks of the peerage and of inherited wealth and position, did NOT use Americanized pronunciations.

From dishonored to hero

As with other books in this series, I attempted to listen several times but gave up before finishing. Welllll....I listened to the end of this book and am so glad I did. I loved this story because of its rich and likeable characters....and because the bad guy got his comeuppance. MJP is a masterful romance writer as depicted in this book. The way she included all the rogues...and their wives...was like icing on a yummy cake. Again, Beverly A Crick did a stellar job in narrating this book. She is a gifted linguist who used English, French and Scottish brogue in this book which made for delightful dialogue. Ms. Crick's narration brings the listener right into the book. Thank you.

Took a Side Route into "Okay, WHAT?"

As a note, I didn't finish this book, I made it halfway, about 4 hours. It seemed refreshing at first, a wandering solider who seeks penance helping a young divorcee he used to know. Then it's kind of hinted he has magic healing powers through God, but never once mentions his faith itself? So that's strange. I don't like Christian books as they are (they're just not for me), but I don't really love that there's this whole aspect of the character that seems to be important to him that we're just actively not speaking about? I was kind of still onboard until here. Then, the *SPOILERS*

female MC, Kendra just randomly remembers that she actually had twins and she had a girl and she wants to see where she's buried because she didn't think she made it through the night. And of course you know she'll find the little girl because of course she will. But then, long plot line short, the guy uses his magic Paladin powers to heal the girl's adoptive mom and HONESTLY. I didn't even know what I was reading any more. This was my first book by this author and I know she's popular but I am mystified. The writing wasn't bad, it was just lacking something.

Formulaic fair helped by great reader.

If it wasn’t for the wonderful reading, would not have finished this. Can’t understand the need for repetition that this genre demands but for me it ruins what could be a pleasant if only mildly entertaining story.
