Publisher's summary

A second chance at once forbidden love.

Twenty-eight-year-old Zoe is heartbroken. Her career as a principal dancer in a prestigious London ballet company has just been brought to a screeching halt by an injury. Needing to re-evaluate her future and make sense of life away from center stage, she returns home to the States, where she runs into her former ballet teacher -and once forbidden love - Natasha.

Ten years older, and the ice to Zoe’s fire, Natasha captured Zoe’s heart a decade earlier. Undeniable sparks danced between them, yet they were never able to give in to temptation. When Zoe moved to London, both were left shattered. Neither woman has been able to move on since.

Now they find the same heat smoldering between them, with no reason to resist it. However, the specter of how they last parted still casts a dark shadow on them - one neither woman can seem to let go of.

Secrets from the past, desires of the present, and the uncertainty of the future might keep Zoe and Natasha from having their chance at true love. Or perhaps they’ll realize fate brought them back together to dance the ultimate pas de deux.

Enchanting

"One Last Dance" (2019) by Anna Stone is an enchanting novella about the complicated relationship between Zoe, a Black star ballet dancer, and Natasha, the Caucasian woman who had been Zoe’s ballet teacher. After being apart for ten years, the two encounter each other and begin a romance that is no longer forbidden. The story doesn’t shy away from Zoe’s challenges within the profession due to her race. Both characters receive some backstory space, although Zoe’s parents are barely mentioned. Eventually I became acclimated to Nicole Blessing’s excited narration. Solidly recommended.

Dance Your Dream

The story of Natasha and Zoey, ballet instructor and student. Zoey has loved Natasha since high school but Natasha would not let her give up her dream to become a principal ballerina. Will they be able to reconnect after a ten year separation? A marvelous depiction of the sacrifices to live your dream and keep the love of your life. Recommend.

Anna Stone is one of my fave romance writers!

I’m a little torn about this one. While I did enjoy it, it doesn’t hold a torch to her bdsm romance. I also feel as though Zoe wasn’t given the care that a black woman would have written her with. The stuff she went through in the ballet world she just had to build up a tough skin as a black girl in ballet but a part of me wishes the author would have fought to make her heroine/LI feel safe in this space and been a better ally for BIPOC dancers. It was just *shrugs* I’m so sorry you have to go through that.......oh well you’re good so it won’t matter. That was the only disconnection for me. And I think because I read the audiobook, I wish she would’ve gotten a black narrator for Zoe’s narrative. It just would’ve made the reading experience better for this particular reader.

Ms. Stone is incredibly talented and almost my go to writer for ff/wlw reads and I love her attempt at an interracial wlw read. Lesbian romance is so white and I love to read non white women in lesbian romance so I hope she makes more.

Well.... I am not a fan

A very bland minor story with an extremely bored narrator, with a flat voice mostly whispering, so, sorry I would not recommend this book to any of my friends... they will kill me :)
