Extremely motivating

For a Firefighter that knows James and was there for the start of his career. This book motivated me to continue to try and make the fire service better.

James has made a positive impact on a lost soul

Being a paramedic scars the soul. The horrors you bathe in every day can become lasting film that coats your life and can’t be washed away. Often this makes medics and firefighters feel alone and depressed with a feeling of being worthless. James touches on these themes and lets us all know what true brotherhood is about.

24/72

James I have seen the positive impact that a 24/72 schedule can make on a first responder. I worked a 24/48 without a Kelly day for seven years before being blessed with the 24/72. I do not take that extra 24 hours for granted because I know how valuable it is now. It is allowed me to spend insurmountable and precious time with my family which in return allows me to return to shift more for filled and ready to serve. Thank you for telling your story and thank you for helping to reignite the compassion that I once had early in my career. Keep up the great work!

Excellent!

Jame’s Geering shares some of his life altering experiences during his many years as a first responder in the US. Some heart breaking, all educational. Compassion is the theme that runs through this eloquent and powerful window into the lives of the people whose job is to be there to help us on our very worst days.

A MUST LISTEN…

It’s deep, raw, honest and he’s an echo to my beckon. I’ve been lecturing and preaching the same facts outlined in this book to the FDNY Probies since 2015.

Took my by surprise

I wasn’t entirely sure what I was expecting from this book. I was aware of it from James the authors Instagram profile, and wanted to learn more about him and about the work that he does. I went into it with no expectations and I was brought to tears a number of times when reading of the experiences he and his team have had to endure and all the courageous things they have done to help others, even in the face of almost certain failure. The book raises some very interesting and important questions about how we think of first responders, of what it takes to be a hero and someone with compassion who is willing to put their life on the line for others, how we treat each other and what the most important things in life could be. I cannot recommend this book enough. It is without a doubt one of the best books that I have read for quite some time.

Gut wrenching/heart checking/tears fears & cheers

James Geering is a friend and and an icon in the firefighting wellness space. His podcast Behind The Shield has literally changed the lives of first responders worldwide.

And now he's bared his soul and told his story. I'll admit it. I was lazy. I waited for the Audible version...and I'm glad I did. Hearing James recount his truths with his sassy British accent was more fun than one should have while crying...and laughing...and crying again.

100000% recommend.

Loved it!

Great listen!, as usual with James Geering. A good recollection of the life of a first responder including the family and the job.
